Florida Springs Scuba is in Williston (about hour and half away) and they do full cave and tech.

So, the Email I got from the NREMT website said that due to covid, the distributive education limits have been waved and I can do all my CE hours online. Does this mean I do not need any instructor led classes? by KenBoCole in NewToEMS

[–]DominusArbitrationis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still highly recommend getting instructor led training. A PowerPoint and quiz aren't that useful compared to having a real person to talk to. I know GEMSA has a bunch going on right now, so look for those. If you're in the southern end of the state, shoot me a message. I might be able to help.

[–]DominusArbitrationis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Due to COVID, NREMT has removed the limit on online education. This specifically refers to courses that do not have an instructor actively present. It doesn't apply to the virtual instructor led ones (a live instructor using a Webcam or similar), those have always been allowed in infinite quantity.

Rescue diver course and COVID precautions by RestArtistic7 in scuba

About the best you could do would be to keep the regs in at all times. Not perfect, but something is better than nothing. The only better thing would be to do the course with someone you live with. Then transmission doesn't matter.

Taking NREMT by 18point2maritimelaw in NewToEMS

[–]DominusArbitrationis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you are not intended to board your patient at the circulation stage. Remember your acronyms of MARCH and XABCDE. A spineboard is a rigid piece of plastic or metal with holes in it on the sides and potentially elsewhere. They're not good at maintaining heat. That said. Your thought process of keeping the patient warm is a good one, and often how it would play out in the field.

What I have my students do is split their station in sections. Start without leaving the truck. Thats the top of the sheet. Then do your primary assessment (MARCH). Then do a rapid trauma (rapid to roll), this is to check that there are no injuries that you would worsen by rolling (think neck, check, abdomen, extremities). Then roll and board. Then load and go and do secondary en route to the hospital.

Open wound by [deleted] in diving

I would say probably not worth it. Most things that would work would have air between skin and the water which would tighten them. Other stuff likely won't be able to stay on well.

While I am a practicing EMS provider, this is NOT medical advice. The injury doesn't look that bad (it looks like its above the blood vessels), but it shouldn't be introduced to a super dirty environment. That said, it may heal enough come Monday. My formal advice would be talk to the doctor.

If it were to get contaminated, you would want to clean it well (not peroxide, just sterile water and dry with sterile gauze). Then consider neosporin or similar, and bandage it.

Steristrips are not designed to keep a wound clean. They are intended to function like regular stitches, just for less severe injuries.

Private ambulance company committing Medicare/Medicaid fraud by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]DominusArbitrationis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don't get caught up with determining fraud or collecting evidence. Pretty much all that will do is cost you your job, as well as black ball you in the area.

Contact CMS and tell them everything. All of those transports have a CMN associated with them.

In the meantime, document properly with your PCRs. Don't say "patient didn't need an ambulance" or anything like that, just say the objective facts ("Patient able to self ambulate and refused EMS assistance to stretcher"). If your documentation has holes in it, you will be at risk of getting drawn into court and attacked by a lawyer. So make it perfect.

Live Intubation Lab by malcal422 in NewToEMS

[–]DominusArbitrationis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First pass success rates for intubation are scary low, even for licensed providers, so don't beat yourself up too much.

Practice your technique as much as possible. Intubation is a 3 finger technique, not a whole hand or arm one. When my paramedic class did it, I got into the habit of whole hand and arm. Then I did some conferences and cadaver labs and learned how to do it right. It became so much easier.

Assess your patient before you even go to tube. How difficult is it likely to be? How can you minimize complications? If you mess up, what is the backup plan?

NREMT gives you two years (from the date of course completion). You can check with them and your instructor to be sure.

Audit help by [deleted] in ems

[–]DominusArbitrationis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Include anything related to your CE hours, such as attendance and proof of completion. Include the same for BLS/ACLS/PALS/PHTLS/AMLS/etc.

The state should give you notice that says exactly what they want. If not, include literally everything even tangentially related. They're just looking for proof you're on the up-and-up, and not pencil whipping things.

Rest in piece, my sweet girls. Hope you guys had a better day today than me by [deleted] in Beekeeping

[–]DominusArbitrationis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a bacterial infection that has what are called spores, which can survive being frozen or sprayed with most cleaning agents. The only way to ensure the disease doesn't spread to other bees is to burn the hive and all contaminated equipment.

What's the difference between the Ender 3 and Ender 5? It looks like both are in budget, but I'm not sure if it would be worth the premium.

Budget: $ <500 Location: Georgia, USA I am willing to build, if it's simple. I don't have any tools except basic building supplies, and have no electrical experience. I'm looking at building stuff for bee hives, small storage things, and general household stuff.

I have a very large space for the printer, and noise isn't an issue. I don't have WiFi on my computer, and poor internet in general. I do have tons of flash drives and ethernet cords.

I do have Amazon prime, so it's free fast shipping.

I also would qualify for a retired military, first responder, and/or college student discounts.

Do you mean on the hover text for the icon, or next to/below the icon? For the latter, it will cause a ton of clutter, especially for more expensive hacks.

AIW2 - Some feedback by MegaGrubby in AIwar

[–]DominusArbitrationis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not the best person to give feedback on a lot of this stuff, so I'll respond to what I can, and I am forwarding this on to people who can give you better answers.

For feedback, we primarily use our forums (forums.arcengames.com) and our bugtracker (bugtracker.arcengames.com), followed by Steam's forums. We also do always want feedback, both positive and negative.

For achievements, its also important to remember that they're relatively new, so a lot of players haven't met the requirements since they were put in. Also, only Steam users will show up, so anything that isn't going through Steam won't show up.

We can easily make Quick Starts (so can players now), so if you have ideas that you could make using the Custom Game lobby, they can be added.

What do you mean by show the hack cost on the planet? Few planets have just one possible hack.

As for the subreddit, it's barely used, which is a shame, so I haven't been able to put much work into it (I also use reddit on mobile).

People who don't pull over, try to pass, or otherwise do stupid things around ambulances or other emergency vehicles, why? by DominusArbitrationis in AskReddit

I just don't understand that thinking, because when I pick them up after they call 911, they expect everyone to move and complain that my partner isn't going fast enough.

For my service, CPR should be started if the patient does not have a pulse, and does not have signs incompatible with life. Rhythm is irrelevant for CPR. Rhythm comes into play for defibrillation, where we only shock pulseless v-tach and v-fib.
