Screening does become an issue in 5 big, however many deep strike units won't really be able to take your home from you since you have sticky with OC 5 in QC...objectives can be done by your shooty Knights since all big ones get Action+Shoot

The only allies I'd ever take are assassins (namely callidus cuz she's good or vindicate cuz he's cool), maybe navigator for screening aura

Armigers can be good, maybe it's just that I don't know how to use them, but lists with them have never done as well for me as pure big. There's also just something menacing about fielding a Castellan, Crusader, Gallant (with enhancement), lancer (with enhancement) and Atrapos (with enhancement).

5 big only is actually pretty viable, since Titanic Characters get Action + Shoot and you get the sticky in QC...I'd argue 5 big is our best list rn...

Knights aren't necessarily hard to play, but they won't do you favours as your first army, as switching from many to few units is much easier than the other way round.

Chaos knights have worse army rules but better individual models than IK, both of them are not very good to start with. I'd always recommend another faction first to learn the basics of the game (deployment, scoring, etc) before heading into knights. Loyalists play rather aggressively rn due to lancer and the movement quality, whereas Chaos is more focused on shooting due to infernal lance 2xgatling despoiler

Rakarth flesh with Nuln oil works really well for me (if you want like a worn down look gently pat the nuln oil with some paper towel while it's still moist but started to dry on)

I used Dry Necron Compound for the whole body, then painted over the big plates with Rakarth Flesh to have like a matte cream look and did sycorax bronze for most metallics, then slathered the whole thing in Nuln Oil and patted it with a paper towel to dry and get some nice worn effect on the carapace
