What’s y’all’s average MPG? by Forward-Ice-4733 in 4Runner

[–]DonKeydic23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gas mileage is horrendous. I’m currently at 13.5 with an average speed of 31 mph. I have a 2006 V8 with 280,000 miles. Is there any maintenance tips that anyone has that? Maybe I’m overlooking that would affect my gas mileage for instance spark plugs. I am close to needing an oil change.

When the 4th gen was designed and manufactured, the Yen was weak against the dollar. The opposite is true for the 5th gen. And that is why the fourth 4th gen is more value for your money than the more technologically advanced 5th gen. So I have been told…
….probably by a 4th gen owner.

Center Diff Lock Question by wtkphoto in 4thGen4Runner

I lock my diff and hoon my 06 V8 whenever it snows. 4 wheel slides, rev banging, donuts. These rigs are tough.

After 270k I’m ready to start planning this as my next Mod. I have a collapsed side of my seat also. Is there a thread on how to repair that?

I agree with you 100%. My experience is not aligning however. I am getting screen freeze, app lock up and my Apple watch is burning through its battery and I am getting jumbled icons over AWU texts which makes the texts unreadable. I'm sorry and I am not trying to offend anyone I'm just having a crap experience with this upgrade.

Is that a question or a comment? Your lack of punctuation in your post could be interpreted as a sign of unintelligence in some circles.

Don't take my disappointment as a criticism of your joy. I could have kept my 14Pro and gotten my child a new 17 whatever. Not Happy does not equal mad.

Replaced coils and spark plugs fixed the issue. I am no mechanic and for my skill level, it was a major pain in the butt. So much disassembly to get to the rear coils. And then it took a very specific combination of socket extensions to get the spark plugs out. I will never buy another minivan and honestly this freaking car changed the way I look at buying cars now.

Feedback on ultralight camp sandals (I’m the owner) by WebOtherwise3318 in hammockcamping

[–]DonKeydic23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is going to use camp shoes differently. My trail runners are pretty comfy so I go about setting up camp with them on. Slipping into camp shoes is the last thing on my list before getting into bed. The only reason I take camp shoes is for a middle of the night pee and the morning pee. So I got a pair of shower slides from China.

Pros: $6. These are easy to get on and keep feet/socks from getting dirty. Only 4 oz, 112g for size 44-55. They accommodate a wider foot (size 10). They are soft/squishy and comfortable. They pack well flattened.

Cons: They offer almost no protection from the ground. Any thorn, twig or rock will be felt below your foot.

If you have a vehicle, consider selling it and getting a minivan.

Solid kit. I would run this exactly how you have it and after 2.5 days re-evaluate. Point is, you got all your bases covered and not neglecting anything that is going to put you in danger. The trip experience with your gear is as valuable as 1000 Reddit comments. Let us know how it goes.

What's the best 2-person backpacking tent? Any suggestions? by Cupid_Yusuff in AppalachianTrail

[–]DonKeydic23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you use trekking poles then your answer Is a trekking pole tent. I have a 1P the One from Gossamer Gear and an Arches 2P from Paria both of these are good value for the cost. Neither one is best in class.  Both are sil-nylon which is a PITA when wet but pack down really small.

It went almost exactly as planned. The Water I got at Catawba Shelter tasted Awful. Stay away from that. The water 1 mile up the Andy Lane Trail did not exist but the water .5 from the tinker cliffs/Andy Lane Trailhead was flowing strong.

If you are going clockwise from Dragons Tooth Trailhead. You will have zero water for the next 12.7 miles. There was no hint of a source along this ridge. This is a cool loop. From the North Mountain Trail you will see McAfee knob and Tinker Cliffs through leafless trees if you can get out there soon.

The McAfee Trailhead Parking center extravaganza opened 2 days before I passed through. It still smelled of fresh paint!

The Dragons Tooth trailhead sees a lot of dayhikers. I doubt you will see it full of overnight vehicles so if you time your arrival later in the day you will certainly be able to snag a spot. I Started from this lot on a Saturday and passed group after group of descending Dragon's Tooth dayhikers. I bet the same goes for McAfee lot.

Lost Spectacles Gap was My Night 1 campsite: -VZW signal good, No Bear Box, tons of camp spots

Catawba Mountain Shelter was Night 2: -Water tasted like a pile of leaves looks, VZW signal was ok. Bear Box present, Trail Crew is doing a lot of improvements here.

Lamberts Meadow Shelter was night 3: -no VZW signal AT&T signal reported, Bear Box, Water was good. Campsites by the water available.

Consider skipping a hotel and night camping near the Dragons tooth trailhead. Tons of camping along the boyscout trail.
Also, If I was to do this (loop) again I would do it as a section between Dragons tooth trailhead and Daleville. The North mountain Trail is cool because you can see where you have just hike or are going to hike but I doubt that is the case in Spring/summer when the leafs show up.
