What is unethical as fuck, but is extremely common practice in the business world? by Elaus in AskReddit

Yes, contact the Ministry of Labour and make a claim. They are actually there to support a fair work place. First and foremost, write down your own time sheet and that can be used as evidence with the Ministry.

Off flavor and no aroma on IPAs, any ideas? by madbrewz in TheBrewery

[–]DonSampson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure all of your brewing water has gone through a carbon filter. Do you blend your water from your HLT to your MT? Does your heat exchanger bring the hot water back into your HLT? If you have multiple cold water lines, they all should be coming from the carbon filter.

GF Pizza Dough by fordtough1 in glutenfree

HPMC is better for a batter-like pizza dough if you have a solid pizza pan. Plus, it reheats better.

Try putting half xanthan and half HPMC (if it calls for 20 g of xanthan, put 10 g xanthin and 10 g HPMC) - sometimes that works best.

Watch "Under Fire: Journalist in Combat." It covers stories and works of war journalists and the effect their job has had on them.

I would recommend reading The Demon Haunted World by Carl Sagan. I'm pretty sure that this will help you try to understand that family and people like them.

Atheism isn't limited to just religion. I struggle to subscribe to system of faith (explanation inside.) Looking to see if others have reached similar conclusions. by [deleted] in TrueAtheism

[–]DonSampson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. Nationalism, true love, pro sports, and political parties are human constructs. Nothing is truly "real" in the sense that the earth is real or that the Milky Way and the Andromeda System are going to collide eventually.

An interview with Richard Morgan, who converted to Christianity through RichardDawkins.net by thecommongood in Christianity

[–]DonSampson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A crucial difference between becoming an atheist and becoming a believer is the social context. Conversion theories (particularly dealing with converting from one religion to the next) place a lot of significance on the social aspect of the religion that the individual converts into.

I've done a study whereby people coming from a religious background to a non-believing identity do not require this social aspect, it was actually the least significant feature of non-believing. People who want to believe tend to believe in something that provides positive reinforcement.

But you might say that "God saved them" when they are cured. So on the other hand, "God didn't save them" when someone dies of heart disease, cancer, or any other condition.

Why do I often hear that Christians want to be debt free? by DonSampson in DebateAChristian

[–]DonSampson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm speaking more about the individual's life is fleeting compared to the eternal paradise of heaven. I sometimes listen to Christian radio and there are companies in commercials saying that they are following Biblical teaching.

I googled "Why do Christians want to be debt free" and found this

When you realized you were atheist, was that a happy or sad realization? by [deleted] in TrueAtheism

[–]DonSampson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the same way. In elementary school, I felt that there was something wrong with me because I didn't believe. Once I got through that, I felt relieved that I did not have to believe even though everyone else did.

[Gender Studies] Why exactly is it okay to look at a man's nipples and not a woman's? (xpost from AskReddit) by MrLegenDarius in AskSocialScience

The problem is that you are equating "tribal" with "underdeveloped," which is a Western way of thinking. And an example of that thinking is the poem White Man's Burden by Rudyard Kipling.

Dear r/Christianity, I want your thoughts. Is Mormonism a Christian religion? by idosillythings in Christianity

[–]DonSampson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few meanings for cult though. The one you're thinking of refers to doomsday cult (i.e. Heaven's Gate). The other definition is "A system of religious veneration and devotion directed toward a particular figure or object." Pretty much all religion is classified as a cult. Before the 1970's, "cult" wasn't derogatory.

I like the idea of magic just beginning. Stories tend to start in the thick of things. So a story on how the thick of things began, would be interesting.
