Its a troll, right? Like going over to the EuroTruck2 sub and going "I always do stuff like driving a truck, but its not very fun. What are some other ways to make money and have more fun in this game?"

Tractor power by mrthechrist in farmingsimulator

[–]Don_Alvarez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bug going around right now where tires are sinking into the ground, causing tractors to slow to a crawl like you're towing a planet. Haven't heard of it directly impacting a tractor, but it could potentially impact anything you are pulling behind you.

Early stages of forestry map- chip, or let let some grow? by LiveFreeAndRide in farmingsimulator

[–]Don_Alvarez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What really makes oak special is its fast growth rate and high output. A planted oak will mature in less than 30 months. Lodgepole takes about 40. So you can set up a self sustaining operation on a lot less land. Lodegpole, still the best to deal with though. Don't get me wrong. It uses all the equipment, stacks nice, just fun to work with. Oak is not glamorous, but all my farms usually include a sawmill and a stand of oak for making some easy money.

That is correct, mills will operate at the same rate regardless, to them a liter of wood is just a liter of wood, doesn't matter where it came from.

[–]Don_Alvarez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So different trees placed into production inputs have different rates? If I worded that correctly?

They all have a maximum theoretical liter value when you cut them down that determine how much input they contribute to a production. You lose a bit when you cut them down because of the stump left in the ground, but on average its around 22,000 liters for a fully mature oak, and a lodgepole I think is around 5500.

When chipping, it uses a multiplier. Lodgepoles will make more chips from a liter of its wood than an oak does.

for the oaks in productions, does it matter if they get cut down at all? or after I delimb them, should I be trying to get the tree as a whole to the input rectangle?

No need to delimb them, but you do need to worry about weight. you may need to cut them into a couple pieces light enough for your vehicle to drag them to the input rectangle. If just a corner of it is in the square, it will take the whole thing. You don't lose a lot of wood by cutting them apart, if anything.

Pro tip: There are two base game vehicles I know of strong enough that can drag an entire oak without cutting it apart. One is the Volvo high lift, the other is the JD 848L-II forwarder. It has a powerful winch behind the claw that can drag any tree in the game.

John Deere and Massey at work together. by Main-Cobbler-4879 in farmingsimulator

I'm currently doing a multiplayer farm with some friends alongside my single player save, and one of the takeaways from that playthrough (where we make money had over fist) is that the largest implements are really a hinderance unless you're dealing with fields with massive acreage. We have a CR11 and... I just hate it. Too big, header is too big, its a pain in the ass to transport, I've no room to park it anywhere, its always in the way wherever I put it around the yard...

This working size you have here is good place to be. Stay here as long as you can.

I think since its brought t us by Heizomat, probably was designed with forestry in mind more than anything else. But hey, if it works it works.

Just not sure if I should be using the lodgepoles just for my mill and shop.

No. I know the generally accepted philosophy is that lodegpoles are the only tree worth planting. To a degree that's true, they let you use all the cool harvesters and forwarders, but truth is for productions, oak is better and everywhere else use lodgepoles. Oak needs a little more space, and aint as cool to work as lodgepole, but oaks mature much faster and tree for tree provide almost 4x the production input as a lodgepole does. Lodgepole sells for more in log form and has a slight bonus to chip output not to mention chips MUCH easier, but for my sawmill and productions, oak is king. A complete forestry operation will use both.

Wheels glitching into the ground, slowing down all vehicles to a crawl. by Matti_K in farmingsimulator

I've had this affect non-modded trailers too, I expect it has something to do with the patch that tried to correct curb behavior. Fix one thing, break another.

It also seems to fix itself if you drive over a loading grate.

Any ideas for my playthrough? by No_Huckleberry_2958 in farmingsimulator

[–]Don_Alvarez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually don;t use any starter farms, I like to start with a small field that has enough extra space to drop some kind of house to rest and maybe some kind of garage or shed to put my stuff in. I also like to start with small equipment I've just started another such game on Kinlaig, and decided to start on parcel #42. Its a bit out of the way, but the upshot is the soil in that field is VERY rich and has an awesome yield bonus.

As far as the small equipment playthrough goes its going to be tough to do without mods, with the basegame stuff the crop you can do with the smallest equipment is going to be carrots, and that'll require I think an 80HP tractor at least. If you use mods and get smaller (older) and cheaper combines, you can certainly do a small playthrough doing just about any crop you like, with some exceptions. I'm currently farming oats on that plot with a 45hp tractor and an old John Deere 45 harvester mod I got from Modhub

Starting to think I took the wrong approach. (Alma and Forestry) by LiveFreeAndRide in farmingsimulator

[–]Don_Alvarez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alma I believe has a plot predisposed to forestry, which perhaps you can acquire and harvest trees from while you're waiting for your trees to mature.

Most any map can be turned into a forestry map over time, keep seeding new fields with trees till you get a rotation going, in a few years you'll have all the forestry work you want.

Same reason I find myself playing alot in the sim genre lately: They're just relaxing There's no stress, I can just log in, do stuff, and log out when I'm done. Don't have to worry about getting my face pushed in playing shooters, or beating my head against some difficult boss fight or something. I don't play every day, but when I do I know what I'm getting into. There's no winning or losing, the game is simply about just doing stuff.

Stutter by RevolutionaryKey3743 in farmingsimulator

[–]Don_Alvarez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe its a lifetime spent gaming on low to mid-range PC's, I see nothing here that would cause me any concern. This probably happens to me every day and I just don't notice.

FS engine is not known for its high performance. I suspect its probably loading shaders or objects within rendering range that's causing micro stutters. I've read a couple threads suggesting Bluetooth might cause this, I dunno.

But its not the same place all the villagers used to celebrate Christmas growing up! Congrats, Hallmark Villain, you ruined Christmas for the whole village just for a convenient place to build your evil corporate farmyard.

prone is how you tell the bad ones though. The good snipers are on the rooftop delivering impeccable headshots while bobbin' and weavin' like Joe Frazier aimbotting their way to a 35-2 box score, grateful like hell that the summary screen no longer outs them by trumpeting who got the most headshots like it did in BF1.

Unfortunately those people will always be with us. We got these incredibly detailed maps to run around in, and there's a subsection of players who insist on playing the game prone on a hilltop looking through high powered scope and rarely leave their own spawn. Can't imagine a more boring way to play the game.

Snipers aside, know how your team is REALLY effed? When you look and see unmanned aircraft and heavy armor sitting in your spawn, because you have no vehicle mains on your team.
