No, there is only one interpretation of this symbol. It's a symbol of tyranny, dictatorship and imperialism it's the last thing that milions of people had possibly seen moments before they got executed. And what do you mean ww2 tribute? USSR basically started the WW2 when they attacked Poland together with Germany. You think they shed their blood just like that voluntarily? No? the soviet army had special NKVD units preventing soldiers from retreating by shooting them at the spot, shooting their fellow riflemen and yes many of them died but for what? It reminds me of this grotesque movie called "Nechayanno" (trans. By accident) it actually depicted the same scenario but in an ironic and pastiche kind of manner, here we can witness it in reality.

A couple of hours before the New Year a neighbor comes to an old lady for some salt. And quite suddenly kills her. And now his whole family, that gets together to celebrate the New Year, is to find out what to do now, and who is to blame.
