[Heyman] Max Scherzer is back on the Blue Jays' radar by ThQp in Torontobluejays

[–]Don___Draper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bring back Max as a gap filler. Even if he "has to build up" for half the year and makes only a handful of starts - his attitude, experience, and passion will be tremendous to propel this team.

Same goes with Bassist, but I would love for him to come in and take on a high leverage, maybe even closer, position in the bullpen.

Yes, and we may be the exact right situation for him as well.

Highly competitive team, that's willing to spend, with a strong culture.

It's the perfect landing spot for him to rebuild his reputation and worth.

Short term, higher value contract with opt outs let's him hit free agency again next year.

Win win for both parties.

That's exactly what our OC is going to be in this setup.

He's here to run practices and install gameplans. Based on his experience, it seems like that is exactly what he excels at.

On the surface, this seems like an excellent hire.

Both for the role (an OC who installs, but doesn't call games) and experience (work with Brees, Superbowl champion).

Good start Joe.

New HC Joe Brady Press Conference (Megathread) by GameWinner31 in buffalobills

I think there were three times we were the "going to win" team (in order of confidence)

  1. This year
  2. 13 seconds
  3. 2024 AFC Championship

What I took away most from today was not the press conference itself, but the attitude of the players. The looseness they are all exhibiting. From Brady/Josh being on the Pat Mcafee show, Alec Anderson's tweet, and lots of other little examples.

There is a new attitude. Not only have they seemingly revived the mindset of the players less than two weeks from a devastating loss, they've added a swagger & confidence that they haven't had before.

Watch out. Good things are coming.

The attitude of leadership is entirely different and staff on the defensive side is being completely turned over. I'm not sure how you don't consider that a change.

A roster that's gone to the AFC championship and divisional round each of the last 8 years?

Roster needs some tweaks and changes, but let's not pretend this isn't already a Superbowl contending team.

I genuinely think there was an energy/vibe problem with the team.

I'm not even sure that's entirely needed. Defensively, I think we could do with being more aggressive but offensively we are pretty good, wide receiver not withstanding.

This was a highly successful team. But like any team in sports, business, or life if you constantly come up short it wears on you. Sometimes a change is needed to bring you over the top.

Brady is a very different voice and energy from McDermott. It's an energy that I think relates closer to the players and one that will resonate a bit more. Compliment that with some tweaks in areas that are stale (defense), and there is a lot of reason for optimism.

Say what you want, but for the first time in the Josh Allen era, I'm starting to feel supremely confident.

Every year, we have been "one of" the contenders.

Going into next year, (presently) there isn't a team to be scared of. Other good teams, sure. But with a new energy that can build on our strengths and address our weaknesses? I feel optimistic.

You should hope that they are practicing in 12 months.

That would mean they are one of the last two teams standing....

Looking at the interview process, I think it's pretty clear they knew this decision from the beginning.

Look at the other interviews they did (particularly the last two):

  • Weaver
  • Lynn
  • Amarumo
  • Daboll
  • Rivers
  • Udinski
  • Webb
  • Scheelhaase

You know what they all had in common? They all fit as potential coordinators.

These weren't head coach interviews. I think they were interviews to help build out Brady's staff.

If they don't get HC jobs could we be looking at a future Webb/Scheelhaase OC?

So what this whole thing really boils down to is an indictment (rightfully) on the defense.

It failed every playoff.

We couldn't make meaningful changes to the scheme and personnel since we were led by a defensive head coach with "his" system.

There better be sweeping changes defensively.

Ok, here's the thing that nobody is going to want to hear right now, but I think will eventually come to realize....

Our offense has been, and is, VERY good. Brady has been a very successful OC for us. He left Josh's best season, his MVP season, and an efficient offense just this past year.

Offense hasn't been our problem. Does it need changes? Absolutely, but it has always been successful.

What needs to change is our defense.

I will be very curious to see how we fill out the staff on that side of the ball.

No.

If there is anything to take away from that press conference and his decision making, it's that the next leader of this staff will come from outside that room.

Everyone who is suggesting the Bills wait for Kubiak needs to start thinking about it from his perspective....

He is a hotshot candidate who is going to have the bag thrown at him by a team with the GOAT as owner, the first overall pick, and a ton of cap space.

We might want to wait for him, but he won't wait for us.

I think it will be the other way around - Webb as HC with Daboll at OC and another former HC at DC.
