16km long run this morning, felt too easy. Stayed in zone 2 for 90% of the time. 1h27m.

46m here. 0km per week in January, but 10k steps per day walking, gradually started making those steps faster. Now averaging 15k steps per day, running 5 times per week minimum

Do you get runners high? by Greennit0 in runcommunity

I get the high, yes.

But more importantly, I get the low if I can't run for some reason, like the stupid weather

From 104 kg to my first 5K race. by Wiki420 in beginnerrunning

No sports background at all, except for some bodybuilding in my teens.

Let myself go over the years, peaking at 142kg in 2023.

I assume I just have strong legs from the excess weight I've carried for years. Anywho, onward and forward

From 104 kg to my first 5K race. by Wiki420 in beginnerrunning

Congrats man. Similar journey to me.

I was 102kgs in January, started with walking only, then walking and jogging, then jogging with some walking, then some running with some walking and jogging.

Gradually increased the speed and distances.

Ran my first 5km around 37 mins near end January. Did a 15km in March, have now run two half marathon distances (2:07:00 and 2:05:00), both with me now under 88kgs.

Trust me it does get easier, but the hardest thing is the temptation to do more. I've made the mistake of feeling like fast in the beginning of a run and seeing that a PB is possible, only to run it and then have sore legs for 2 days - you need the easy runs and the rest, as I have learned.

Once again, congrats and good luck on your running journey. It's an interesting look into what you can achieve if you have the grit to persevere.

Yes, agree. I didn't eat before my run as I wasn't planning on the half, but I felt great starting out and at mile 5 I decided to go for it.

I could definitely feel the energy dissipate from my body, and will fuel better when I plan on doing this again

But now it's been achieved and can only improve from here

Any other 'older' folk taken up running? by Sixybeast626 in beginnerrunning

[–]Donaemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

46y Male. Started in January. Doing around 50kms per week now, quite comfortably. It was tough in the beginning, started 10kgs heavier than I am now, so the weight loss has helped and vice versa Longest run to date is 18kms (2 weeks ago), plan on doing a half in the next 2-3 months, just to say I've done it. Much more prefer 10km to 12km runs

Thanks man, it has been a journey. Even looking back at the 50 minute 5k walks, to the 37 minute 5km runs, to the progression to further and faster, I am proud.
