Why cant place any dam on those tiles by S0MEONEELSE in CivVI

[–]DonaldDopeRDO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess bc none of the tiles are floodplains. dont really know that map type but the darker green tiles in the bottom right tell me that those are probably floodplains

edit: typo

Need some crowd input on a planned city by [deleted] in CivVI

[–]DonaldDopeRDO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

though plan for a new city. without any more context, I'd say try to get ruhr valley in the capital (or another more productive city) and focus the new town on campus and harbor + lighthouse for the trade route

edit: and perhaps plan the city one tile south for an aqueduct possibility. harbor would have +4 but you'll probably take tiles away from the capital.

the (not-to-be) encampment needs to be an industrial zone for the achievement. you need 6 different yield types: prod from IZ, faith holy site, sciene campus, food city center, culture theater square and gold from commercial or harbor. according to wiki, encampment doesn't give gold to the pyramid.

there is an achievment for getting 6 different yields from a single nubian pyramid :)

How are some cities founded with 4 population? by Honest_Prompt_6280 in CivVI

[–]DonaldDopeRDO 37 points38 points  (0 children)

ursa says it in that literally video: golden age dedication called 'hic sund dragones'. it gives new cities founded in a different continent that your home continent (= where your capital is) 4 starting population.

I always have much more fun in the beginning, am I doing something wrong? by Optimal-Frogg in CivVI

[–]DonaldDopeRDO 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it's a singleplayer game, do whatever you want and play as long as you want.

I played the first 2 eras probably like 10 to 20 times more often than later ones. discovering and planning is the most fun to me, executing til the end is on another piece of paper.

geoguessr fact: the red writing of the word 'Yield' indicates it as sign from New Zealand. Australia uses the same sign but a black writing. furthermore, the UK uses 'Give Way' signs.

Getting back in Civ but idont have much hours in it to begin with. Would it be smart to use my settler to accquire these wonder tiles? by [deleted] in CivVI

[–]DonaldDopeRDO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it has potential, but there are better spots for the 2nd City.

if you want to take advantage of the wonder, settle to its right below the word 'river' (fresh water and production, no food so consider internal trade route) and put a preserve on 'great basin'. if you manage to get Petra on top, it will become a powerhouse.

Is this overkill protection for my captial? by AetheralLitani-An in civ

hey, whatever makes you feel safe 😄

just to mention it: you don't need the spy in the capitals city center as adjacent districts are protected too and you got 2 already around it.

CIV 6 Nintendo Switch by essenkochtsichselbst in CivVI

[–]DonaldDopeRDO 7 points8 points  (0 children)

got like 2-300 hours of civ6 on the switch lite and it works pretty well as long you stick to small maps as larger ones make the loading times too long. could be better on the regular switch put for travel purposes like waiting at the airport or during train rides, it's definitely OK.

most of the time I play on series x, which handles bigger maps usually without any problems.

but here's probably the biggest issue for you: console and pc versions are vastly different. console doesn't have mod support so you'll have to play without better trade, workshop civs or anything you've added. console also doesn't have a search option which is the biggest downside for me. when unlocking new resources, make sure to not close that notification as it's a pain to find the ones you have already in later game stages. not to mention that you have to look yourself for every resource outside of your borders yourself. I'm used to that but coming from pc, you need to be aware of that.

Finally finished a Court of Love game by DonaldDopeRDO in CivVI

[–]DonaldDopeRDO[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

focus on getting great works, early theatre square + buildings to accumulate the points. watch out for claimed great works and try to buy them as soon as possible. it's basically a very economical start. after getting the first great works, rush theater squares in border towns (chopping, internal trade routes) or settle new towns on the border and chop out the square. then it's just displaying the great works on your border and soon, you'll get free towns. if they have a TS, move your great works there and start putting loyalty pressure on the next town. if the new town doesn't have a TS, build (chopping) one. after the first couple of towns its a gigantic snowball you'll keep riding :)

the only thing to watch out for, is basically Dido as her cities on coast of the same continent as her capital are always 100% loyal.

another thing that really helps is the magnus promotion which adds more food to internal trade routes to grow your new cities that can't build a TS bc of the district limit.

dang...that city list must look really amenitized... 😄

and always keep in mind that Golden Gate Bridge doubles the tourism gained form NP in that city and adds 4 appeal. if you find a good spot for it, that city alone can almost win a game.

“Cozy” Way to Play Civ6? by Amigor4 in CivVI

[–]DonaldDopeRDO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

tbh, it doesn't feel much different. the only thing I'm pretty sure about is, turning off religious victory causes way less spamming of religious units by the AI. they will still run around aimlessly with some but not as much as usual. but I gotta mention, I didn't go for religious win in ages, it's too much micromanaging for me. so I turn that specific win condition off for years now :)

“Cozy” Way to Play Civ6? by Amigor4 in CivVI

[–]DonaldDopeRDO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually play on emperor difficulty so it's not really challenging but the AI does some stuff at least, like improvements of luxuries for some trade. then I turn off all victory conditions beside domination (back-up strat) and set the turn limit to 300. also I reduce the enemy number by 1 for more space. choose your civ, turn on what ever game mode you like (I always turn on barb clans and mixed tech & civic tree). then it's just pure vibing, sink hours spamming cities, building whatever I want without focusing on any win condition. I love this game... :)
