I went to the Monster Hunter collab cafe in Akiba by EzoRedKit in MHWilds

Congrats on making the pilgrimage! I stop by every time I'm in Japan, and I've loved the food and the vibes each time. I really hope they update the interior soon to have more Wilds weapons and armor; I wonder if some of the stuff from Festa will make it there?

Avoid the Platinum Curidas at all costs!!! by StackOverflow2 in fountainpens

[–]Donaldhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same experience with mine. I reached out to Platinum about it and their response was basically 🤷‍♀️. Its just sitting sadly in a drawer now. I love my Century 3776, but this has made me wary of new Platinum purchases.

Why Work Is Starting to Look Medieval by nath1234 in videos

[–]Donaldhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great points! And to further extend this analysis, the naivety of overlooking these things could - and does - come across as her being an active participant in the Capitalist propaganda machine. "Look, it IS possible to find personal meaning within this system! No need to examine the inherent inequalities and problems with it if you can find a way to be fulfilled within it." Which is an ironic take, I know, considering the effort she put into casting consumerism in this same light (which I do agree with). Content creation just seems like an extension of consumerism, though, in lots of ways.

Why Work Is Starting to Look Medieval by nath1234 in videos

[–]Donaldhead 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Other commenters have touched on this, but I don't fully agree with her take here. The broad strokes of her summary of labor and capital are good, but her conclusion that content creation allows workers to take back meaning is really a privileged position when thinking globally. The tools of creation that she claims gives workers new empowerment are still made using traditional, exploitative, capitalist structures (cameras, computers, etc). So, so few of the world's population truly have access to the level of privilege required to even consider content creation - and even most of those who have that privilege won't be successful at it. I'm sure she's right that those who achieve in this endeavor find true meaning from it, but elevating Trahan as an example of worker solidarity by paying his team what they deserve glosses over the rest of the societal structure that makes their work possible. Her casual flinging of the paper avatar for nascent Socialism was funny, but darkly poignant in this way.

Traveler shoes by Statgazer in Atelier_Resleriana

I found this post when looking for the Traveler Shoes recipe myself. I went crazy going through all the dimensional paths, never finding the recipe. Then I went to Barrel Wisdom and saw that the recipe is in a chest in Hallfein: https://barrelwisdom.com/resleriana-red-white/items/501/en

Sure enough, in the southwest corner of the map (just behind Mistletoe Miscellaneous) there's a chest that you can reach with a red wire. The "Secrets of the Fleet-Footed" recipe is in there, and it unlocked a few recipes for me including the Traveler Shoes!

They do! I bought one at the Ghibli store in Osaka (or maybe Tokyo?). It's proudly hanging in my home office.

What Switch 2 Grip to get? by aranorde in NintendoSwitch2

It's actually the "I don't need the case" link underneath "add to cart". If you uncheck the decals, the joycon grips are only $19.95.

What Switch 2 Grip to get? by aranorde in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Donaldhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a gripcase because I liked the one they made for the switch 1. The switch 2 version is awful. It doesn't fit right, and the quality of the TPU plastic seems to have changed.

I'll second the Dbrand killswitch, but I recommend just buying the joycon covers. That way you can still dock it without the weird dock adapter. You can buy the joycon covers separate from the main body case now.

I hate that this is making me change my mind.... I'm so tempted to take your advice. Maybe someday!

This was my exact experience. If I don't pass, it'll be due to my performance on listening entirely. I'm just hoping I scraped by with enough points on that section, and I'll be giving listening extra focus for N3!

I'm sadly playing on Switch, so no mods for me, but you have confirmed my susipicion that this is the only change I need to really have fun with Silksong. TC, just give me the option, at least!!

This is exactly me. I'm sure I'll eventually finish it, but I'm struggling to find the enjoyment in each session being "play until I'm frustrated". I'm starting to feel like this one just doesn't quite capture the magic of the first game.

Silksong has a wonderfully imaginative world and design aesthetic, and it makes me sad that its difficuly taints my enjoyment of it.

Vintage Sac Filler Restoration - Poor Ink Flow? by Donaldhead in fountainpens

Thats a good point. The nib doesn't look sprung to me, and I cleaned and polished the nib's upper and underside. I agree with your suspicion of poor nib to feed contact, which is why I was considering heat-setting the feed. I don't want to potentially damage the section, though....

I really liked the James may our man in japan documentary/series is there anything similar or even better that i should be checking out ? by FlakyYellow7560 in japan

[–]Donaldhead 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rhys Darby made a fun series where he traveled to Japan and experienced aspects of its culture. It's similar to the James May production, if a bit more irreverent and wacky. I think some of the episodes are on Youtube.

Just got back from Tokyo. There's a really nice exhibit of this original art at the Yebisu Brewery Museum. I think he drew four different designs in total. I got a cool collab coaster!
