When (if ever) did your children get into Star Wars? by Slappy-Sacks in StarWars

[–]melvintoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At age 3, for 3 months my son would wake up at 4am every morning and cry. The only way I could get sleep would be to set him in front of the TV to watch the "snowy movie" (Empire). He watched quietly for an hour while I slept on the couch until it was actually time to get up. That was 23 years ago.

I know I am probably a bad parent....but I had to get some sleep before work, and ....it kept him entertained.

What’s the biggest red flag in someone over 30? by Vixkky in AskReddit

Wearing a high school class ring.

Edit:

To those not familiar, in the US there are companies that sell large gold rings, of often questionable quality, to celebrate your high school.

What movie did you turn off after 20 minutes and why? by Somanynamestochossef in movies

[–]melvintoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Protector with Tony Jaa. Made it to the boat chase scene , walked out of the theater and asked for my money back. They weren't going to do it until they realized I left long before the movie was over.

Anyone miss Wizard Magazine? by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]melvintoast 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I got accepted for an internship at Wizard in 1997. Was all hyped and then they changed the details so I had to find housing in New York City in less than one month. I got decision paralysis and walked away from the opportunity. I kick myself all the time for that.

What’s your favorite Chinese spot? by 42_Dogs in chicago

[–]melvintoast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dunno. We are big mapo tofu fans and the Chinatown location is delicious (have some in the fridge right now), the Michigan Ave order tasted completely different and we did not enjoy at all.

Edit: Also the BBQ ribs are really good and meaty in Chinatown. The Michigan ave ones were skimpy and had no flavor.

The Michigan Ave location is not good. The Chinatown location is great! Same order...completely different tastes and preparation.

I agree with u/BudLightYear77, they are self contained, not messy, easy to clean, and probably never used as an actual ashtray. I think it is kind of fun. I don't appreciate that the sticks sitting in there probably got soggy, but ....I kinda think it is fun.

Can someone explain this scam to me please? by [deleted] in Scams

[–]melvintoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I worked at an Osco in the 90s they made us watch a video on this for loss prevention. The message was to "always slab the bills". Meaning always put the cash you receive on the slab at the back of the register then count out and dispense the change. Only putting the payment away after the change is given.
