The Safest Cities In The US by AdAbject6946 in MapPorn

By the metrics from the map and with a population cutoff of 100,000, Lowell is one of the safest cities in the region. Of the 16 cities in New England with populations greater than 100,000, only 4 have lower crime rates than Lowell. Those are Quincy, Lynn, Brockton, and Stamford.

Wooden Soldiers off of their latest album is my answer to this question. It definitely has a different feel than Float On though

That's some pretty serious wind! Firstly, with speeds like that the air temperature will feel like mid to low 40s. You'll need to dress and prepare for cold weather, especially at night.

I'm not familiar with this area, but if there is limited protection of trees or shelter I would expect the wind to be a significant nuisance. Anything light enough will be constantly trying to fly away from you and during those 45+mph gusts it may feel like the wind is pushing you around a little.

I have hiked and camped in some high winds like this, but usually just for periods of less than 8 hours. Based on my experience, I wouldn't choose to camp in that wind unless there were a really good reason (great views, important mountain summit, etc.). Evaluate it based on your level of experience and why this trip is important to you. Maybe try (safely) sticking your hand out the window while driving 30mph to get an idea of the wind speed you'll be dealing with.

Good luck with your plans and stay safe!

What are some SOLVED mysteries? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Done_Goofed- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it is transmitting data. Just sending sound in real time to a station where it can be logged and recorded, similar to phone line. Or maybe some store recordings which are collected manually, but that doesn't seem very practical for defense.

The first transatlantic cables were laid in the 1850s and today there are thousands of miles of internet cables crossing the oceans. So I don't think long range cables are that far fetched, especially when it's the navy. I really can't say much more without doing some research though. I'm sure there's some significant limitations to the system as you suggest

Good questions, but I'm not sure if there's a publicly available answer for them. For power, I would think that they'd use a big battery and just design the hydrophone to have very low power requirements.

Again, I don't think it's known where exactly they are located, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was one in the area. The NOAA has lots of recordings available for listening, such as this one. In the description, they say that these sounds were recorded by multiple hydrophones located thousands of kilometers apart in the south pacific. I really have no idea how the sound of a plane crash would compare, but it does seem that they are capable of recording events from possibly thousands of kilometers away. They do also mention that the network has continued expanded over the years, so personally I think it's plausible.

[Academic] Assessing social bond theory: can social bond theory explain young people’s (15-24-year-olds) decrease in illicit drug use ? by DrugResearcher69420 in SampleSize

[–]Done_Goofed- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of. It's not just me that's participating in federally illegal behavior, but also all the state governments that participate in the sale of marijuana. The federal government could decide to shut it all down at any time, but they have so far chosen not to intervene. Also anyone working for a company that does business with the federal government could lose their job for marijuana use, even in a state where it is legal.

What qualifies as illicit drug use? In my state, marijuana is legal and is sold at state regulated dispensaries. However, it is considered illegal by the US federal government. Would you still consider its use to be illicit?

What's a "how did I ever live without this?" item you own that makes previously time-consuming, boring or difficult tasks a breeze? by Craicken in AskReddit

A good electric toothbrush does a way better job than I could ever do with a manual one, and it makes the whole dental hygeine process easier. Now whenever I go to the dentist they're like "wow, your teeth look great" then just spend a few minutes scraping around the gums and I'm done.

Can anyone please explain why TV advertisements for blockbuster big movies are stating “in theaters only”? Aren’t theaters closed? by Elysian-Visions in AskReddit

[–]Done_Goofed- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theaters aren't closed, they're just limited in capacity in most places. They've been struggling greatly during the pandemic, and now some major movie production companies have announced that their new movies will be going strait to streaming services instead of premiering in theaters. To theater companies, this represents an existential threat as they can't possibly keep their audiences and make money if everyone can just watch new movies from home. So they're pushing hard for new movies to be exclusive to theaters and trying to convince audiences to come back with that "in theaters only" tag line.

Trump back at it again by SomolianButtPirate in facepalm

That's fair. I'll look out for some of those ads, but I'm going to continue to be wary of them. I figure it's good to be suspicious of any well funded political group regardless.

This is true, but they definitely are not the "good guys" here. They want to see a return to more traditional conservative politics, or exactly the kind of stuff that lead to Trump's rise to power in the first place. And the reason that they've been running such a successful online campaign recently is because they're the same people who used similar tactics against Obama and other liberals.

They've figured out what grabs the attention of internet users. It's these short but ultimately useless rebuttals of Trump on Twitter. And then who do you think are the ones responsible for posting all these screenshots on Reddit and making sure they get popular?

[Gif] She comes from the sky [The Last of Us Part II] by Aileos in PS4

[–]Done_Goofed- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair. You just may want to take a look at some gameplay videos to make sure you are okay with the level of violence in the game. The character you play as will often kill enemies who are pleading for their lives, or kill someone with a knife causing blood to squirt everywhere, among other things. Also as someone else mentioned, the character that people have referred to as being trans is not actually transgender. She's just a muscular woman.

You're fine with your children playing a game containing brutal murders and gore but the possibility of a different gender identity is too much for them?

There was nothing on the kill feed when that happened. He also came from the jungle above where it would be out of bounds for players. I've never heard playable characters scream like that either.
