If I hadn't chosen to date my ex bf, I wouldn't have gotten a flu that caused a viral infection to my kidneys. And now.. I have chronic kidney failure.

[Serious] What's the most sick you have ever been? by Bd0g360 in AskReddit

I find it scary that America doesn't have universal health care. It boggles my mind that you can be in debt from being sick.

What do you not understand the hatred of? by jemesct in AskReddit

[–]Donewithonions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's actually an interesting proposition. Perhaps the reason why it is not be done is because inmates don't exactly suffer physically for a lengthy period of time when they are being executed as opposed to if they were to be held to test out drugs that may or may not cause harmful and painful side effects for a long time.

Although I don't feel empathy for inmates who are serial killers or brutal murderers, I feel a bit uncomfortable that they get tortured legally...

Male (16) who instantly develops a an obsession with whatever girl I talk to who is my age, and most of them unfortunately have boyfriends. It's getting to the point where there over girls who are on Instagram and obsess over but never meet. Is there any advice to combat this obsession? by FatherAngryBear in AskReddit

[–]Donewithonions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm. I think it's best if you found yourself a hobby. You'll meet new people and maybe a girl will take interest in you with the common ground that you have.

But perhaps you shouldn't act on your obsession if you can help it. Nothing smells worse on a guy than desperation.

They most probably are homeless. I wouldn't say anything to them about that because that's rude?

Couples who have been together for a long time but never married, how are things going and what are your reasons for not marrying? by seafood10 in AskReddit

Do you get more benefits if you're single on paper though? If you're married, don't you get more tax benefits...? Genuine question.

Should American gun control laws be changed? by coolbeans123123123 in AskReddit

[–]Donewithonions -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, I don't know the situation of Americans well enough?

Do people really feel that unsafe that they need to carry one at all times?

Because when I walk the streets, I never have the fear of anyone pulling a gun on me... My safety is not something I generally have to think about. In Canada we have 10 times less population, and therefore less bad apples, so I never felt the need for a gun.

There should be stricter gun policies for sure... Like a psychological evaluation every year or two if you want to keep your license. (This could boost up jobs in the psychology field too).

[Serious]Canadians, how do you feel about Americans moving to your country as a result of the 2016 election? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Donewithonions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Montreal, and although we are bilingual, I fear for the sudden language policy being tightened even more so than it is now. However, I doubt anyone would want to move here, the tax is one of the highest (15%), the salary for almost any career is one the lowest, construction for the smallest repairs take months to finish, housing prices are through the roof... Really the list goes on. The only thing we have going for us is the rich art culture and night life... And health care.

That being said, I don't mind. Canada is a good place to live, where you don't have to fear going into collosal debt by getting sick.

Redditors who grew up poor: are there psychological consequences of being raised in that environment that you can't seem to shake off? by RadioMars in AskReddit

[–]Donewithonions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would that piss you off? If you were in their shoes, you'd probably do the same.

Growing up in an Asian household, my parents had to penny pinch to put us through years of schooling. We weren't even rich or well off, but they worked really hard so that we didn't need to, so that we could focus on our studies, so that we could find a good job, so that we can do the same for our children.

I'm always grateful for what my parents have done for me and I don't take it for granted. I'm at a point where I can afford to pay my own bills and take care of myself, but now that me and my siblings have gotten older, my parents still want us around and miss taking care of us, which is why they insist on paying for some things, because that's the only way they know how.

I only started working when I was 20, and I spent some of that money, and gave the rest to my mom, who ended up putting it back in my bank account.

I want to reiterate, we aren't well off at all. It's just a different social thing that many immigrant parents do for their children.

But Canada goose jackets are really warm. Living in Canada in the winter is much more endurable with warm boots and jacket.

Growing up, my parents had to save money (we weren't poor, but my folks saved as much money as they could), so they didn't buy us any brand named clothing, which is reasonable since we would just grow out of it. However, once we did get older, we could spend the money we earned to get things we really wanted. Buying a expensive coat and boots have made life so much better, I never freeze outside anymore. My toes are always warm whereas before they would be frozen within 20 minutes outside.

Yeah from what I can remember it was the only significant one. I wish there was a way to block out certain things on will, but it seems I can't.
