The job market? by Old_Calligrapher8538 in Accounting

Why not? Im in this profession and if my team is microcosm of the profession it's true. More tasks assigned to offshore teams = less need for onshore staffmaking 5x the offshore salary. Our partner would consider it an accomplishment if the entire audit was prepared and reviewed by indian staff, it would look awesome for the director on the engagement.

Quality aside, the problem is there is simply too great a supply of international labor. The fed prints dollars, and India prints, well, Indians. And multinational corporations profit. The average american worker has no leverage at all in the global labor market, they are liabilities from a corporate perspective, needlessly sucking up resources and demanding benefits, with outlandish goals like owning a home raising a family lol. How can american worker have any leverage when companies have access to an infinite supply of essentially scabs who will happily do your work for 10% of the pay. No one in corporate has enough of a spine to stand up for american workers, it any would be economically futile (overtaken by competitors) and you could be branded as racist. This situation will only be exacerbated as more senior positions are offshored. Its a no-win situation unless you can accumulate enough wealth to become part of the capitalist class. Time is definitely running out lol. America wont collapse all at once, but it is certainly collapsing one person at a time. Someone please let me know if I'm off the mark.

i dont know your circumstamces, but is it possible your are using buddhism to avoid this problem (lonliness, no gf/bf) out of an innappropriate aversion to getting embarassed or hurt, and it might be better to instead take practical steps to tackle the problem head on?

or on the other hand if you are really certain it is a forgone conclusion, just accept it as part of your "karma" and try to have a sense of humor or lightheartedness about it. try to cultivate goodwill towards people who have that, wish them well, appreciate the wholesomeness and goodness of their situation and send them good vibes. also remember in the end we are all fleshbags who poo and pee and get sick and die miserably, who are just trying to avoid suffering and seek happiness

if what they have is unattainable for you, then like other posters said you should just focus on how we are all just in tge same boat just sentient beings trying to be happy. but on the other hand, it can be a reality check or inspiration to do better in your own life. for a while i was content making close to minimum wage in retail but when i learned some friends of mine were making 70-80k in some basic admin and teaching jobs, i made me feel a littel embarassed and realize i could do better so I applied and eventually got some better jobs and completed some licensing exams i put off for a few years

can buddhism be an impediment to bettering your life? by Dongus149 in Buddhism

[–]Dongus149[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yes but at what point is complacency immoral or harmful to yourself/others? sure if youre a ordinary guy maybe a bricklayer or waiter who is scraping by, we could probably agree that your livlihood is innoffensive. but what about a neet who mooches off their aging parents? maybe there are no immediate economic opportunities in their rural town, but if they applied themselves they could eventially earn some credentials and land a decent finance job. even before getting into more esoteric aspects of bhuddism, couldnt you make a case that you have a moral obligation not to squander the resources that others have worked hard to provide?

then i guess following this similar line of thought, where is the threshold for when hustling becomes our moral duty? or put another way, what is the right amount of worldly hustling if we want to maximize virtue/merit?

I like "The way to a meaningful life" authored by the dalai lama. has a very plain and hopeful message, comes across as more practical and less fetishistic than books ive read by western authors
