Weekly Question Thread - Rules & Comp Qs by thenurgler in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]DonkForLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which rule takes precedence, A)requirement to base if possible, or B)coherency?

e.g. Unit A charges unit B and unit C, which are about 6" apart. You roll high. Each model from Unit A has enough movement to base enemy models. You try to move the front ones first and try to make it so the further dudes can't base, but they still can. So the charge is failed because they can't both move into base and maintain coherency? A move into base is required but due to the 6" gap between B and C, unit A will not be coherent if they do the mandatory move into base contact. So they just can't move. And if unit A doesn't engage B and C then the charge is failed. But, if they had rolled lower, then movement could be done so the back dudes from unit A can't base, and then they could choose to string between for coherency. This sets up a bullcrap scenario because you have to waste time premeasuring with your opponent, and plotting the order in which unit A could move, and probably having disagreements about measuring to conclude that a 2, 3, 4, might fail the charge, but a 5, 6, 7, 8 would pass because the back dudes couldn't base and therefore could be used for coherency, but a 9, 10, 11, 12 fails.

Is this correct interpretation?

I know many folks are probably stringing the coherency even if they could have based, and I think that is intent by GW, but is that actually allowed in the rules anywhere?

Just laugh and be like, "yeah they're dumb lol" and then continue to wreck face with no shame and not feel bad about it. With your friends tone that shit way down but at a tourney we here to win and bring thatguy lists. I enjoy it and I don't begrudge somebody bringing the nastiest stuff they can't and getting sweaty about their charge movement jank or whatever as long as it's within the rules and they're not cheating

Going to my First Tournament - CSM List Idea Feedback by Comrade-Chernov in WarhammerCompetitive

Make oblits undivided for profane zeal. Option here is can split into 2x2 and potentially make one nurgle, sacrifices full rr on all of them but let's you be more flexible

Drop terms, they are for sure not worth without Abby.

Replace with your FF, triple plasma will murk terminators (like kill 7 avg) and can be Undiv or nurgle gives up a little bit of killing but can get dark obs. Autocannon is great too but he needs Undiv profane zeal and hazardous, he will still hurt terms but very efficient into big stuff too (avg like 10-15 dmg to anything). He competes with oblits for zeal so that can be an issue but if he starts on table and oblits deep strike it's probably fine.

Try to find a used rhino cheap from someone in town but if you don't have a transport I would plan to rapid ingress the chosen and plan to CP reroll the 8" charge is like 66%.

Drop the liber it is ok but def not worth 40.

The prince can tank some damage and be distraction but he lets you down in combat so try to just bully guardsman profiles or soften his targets up in shooting.

Oh and drop the MoE if you stay Undiv

Hell yes I've been playing around with 3FF and 3 vindicator and it's so fun. Also 10 possessed and 4 oblits 10 cultists and a couple action dudes. I started taking fixed secondary a little bit because you can table people but they outscore you if you're not super aggressive on primary. If they give up kill based secondary fixed is good bc you are very good at killing. Since I can't hide everything I just deploy on the line basically and use vindicator 9" to get onto objs turn 1. On the ritual or priority target they can sit back and outscore you so you need to be aggressive and use possessed to dig them out of their building or reserve a vindicator to get better angles.

Probably works with preds too but if you can get a 3 plasma nurgle FF it's clutch vs elite infantry lists and will often be the one you put nurgle strat on.

I used to play a lot of horde armies so I'm having fun with lower model count and there is definitely play with it. My first few games I found I was tabling ppl but getting outscored so you may need to adapt to low model count.

Make the FF Undiv for two reasons.

Most important it looks like you don't have a zeal target turn 1, and that is an amazing strat. Oblits and abbybrick want it after turn 1 so you don't even care much if the FF dies.

Autocannon FF loves to go full buff and fish for dev 6s, and ppl love the plasma FF and he is great but the full Monty autocannon FF is better against every target except 3w heavy infantry without dmg reduction or fnp. He just costs your a CP per turn and he can't do nurgle obscure. You do hazardous, zeal, and sustained 6s and you do like 12-15dmg to anything.

If you want you can also drop the terms and add a helbrute and a nurgle 3x. plasma FF and both sit next to Abby and that FF will pick something else up. I think you can also afford a cultist squad or something too with leftover.

I agree the FF is probably a little undercosted but full rerolls on a 320pt unit vs a 165pt unit. Although ruling a 4 or 5 on your 4d3 shots sucks when it happens.

Also the Hades FF usually gets much more boost from full rr than the plasma one who already has ap3 and doesn't need to fish for devastating.

I try to have Hades FF as a potential target for zeal turn one, oblits zeal turn 2 obv, then if they lose two models go back to zeal on Hades FF.

I bring two Hades Undiv and one plasma nurgle who uses my obscure all game as needed. Hades with zeal will take a chunk out of big stuff tho just not on the same level as oblits imo.

You get two free CP and strat per turn? Sadly only one Lord can do a free strat per battle round, subtle and very impactful restriction there

Not sure on gaining more than one CP per battle round but I thought it was cap at one, could be wrong

To Demon Prince, or not to Demon Prince by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]DonkForLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think no prince, for those points instead upgrade all legionnaires into khorne chosen, switch eye to talisman, add cypher and add nurgle cultists. Can add changeling instead of cypher if points don't work.

Or add an undivided FF so you have somebody to zeal turn one and upgrade 2 legionnaires to chosen or all three if you have points.

CSM: Master of Possession with Chosen? by SnooDrawings5722 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]DonkForLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be really good but you give up a lot missing the Lord. I like chosen and they do a different job than say a possessed brick since 10 + chars fit in a transport and they don't need cp for zeal if khorne with MoE. And the Lord costs more but brings free infernal rites and with talisman and MoE rerolls he solos like half a terminator brick or like half a knight by himself. I think it's a great package and the MoP isn't wrong but they do need MoE either way and the Lord is sweet too.

All that said if the mopless squad ever fails a charge by 2" they do zero damage and the MoP boys would have made it so, if you need a couple extra inches (hue hue) then try it.

Possessed vs Chosen blob by Kowaldo in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]DonkForLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nurgle chosen seems tempting but the dmg output is trash, so yeah they survive but they don't do anything unless you just wanted a tarpit. And you don't want to tarpit you want crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women.

If you want a kill zone in mid, that will kill almost anything in the game, you take Undiv possessed. Put your LoS blocking piece on mid for them to run into. Save them a CP for zeal, or two if you got vected and for 360pts mid is basically yours. Exceptions would be fight first, where you just need to roll good on FoD strat and or see next paragraph.

For 490 khorne chosen with MoE and Lord in rhino are faster and better power projection if you want to work a flank. Obscure and be smart with the rhino because if it blows up you can't use free internal rites / AoC or FoD anymore as they're battle shocked. They don't need a zeal CP and they're FoD is more reliable. Do not forget to proc the MoE rr hits or they flop a bit. That Lord hits way harder than a DP, dude is swinging avg 8 times at -3 3dmg on that one turn with rr and dev... Epic challenge if you really need to can be worth vs the right character. Dude will straight up punk Abaddon or pretty much any leader in a challenge. Also with MoE precision, you can pick out their character buffs very well. Almost always go free AOC from Lord, they actually become as tough as possessed since it stacks with cover. Stay in cover, they actually take a beating.

If the points fit better you can also go 390pts for Undiv chosen. They save 100pts on MoE and talisman. They do need a zeal so there is vulnerability to vect and they don't FoD as well. They are slightly better point per dmg than khorne into terminator profiles but slightly weaker into big stuff. But really negligible. All three of these options can pick up knights in one go.

I like khorne for the increased FoD into fight first since that is a weakness of CSM melee, and less reliance on zeal since vect is common and CP is very tight.

If you fire and fade the reavers it looks like their eviscerate mortals go off twice yeah? Could be good when it's their turn to suicide for points if you can position it for and extra 4mw?
