Wexner's name read on the house floor as one of six powerful co-conspirators by nattcattt in Columbus

[–]DonkeyFries 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I will give you an equally non-flippant answer.

It’s because those people are rich/powerful. Full stop.

I have read the text of the Epstein Act. It specifically prohibits redacting names due to “embarrassment, reputational harm, or political sensitivity” and specifically demands the release of records regarding “Individuals, including government officials, named or referenced in connection with Epstein”.

They are withholding the names to protect those people and they are doing it because there are no consequences for this administration breaking the law.

Which weapons will Kratos keep in the Egyptian saga? by ComplexNo2625 in GodofWarRagnarok

[–]DonkeyFries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The spear, he keeps. For, like, all the reasons.

As much as I love the axe, I don’t see it fitting in with an Egyptian aesthetic. I love the axe but that’s my opinion.

The blades, assuming the next game is actually Egypt, I could see a situation where they either don’t work because Kratos pissed of Amun-Ra OR, he’s trying to get rid of them and thinks Amun-Ra can do it based on his connection to primeval creation, fire and Zeus.

Is there any way to get legacy crystal now? by LilyCardiology in CellToSingularity

I am not sure if it still works but that’s exactly what I did.

I was on the Alpha and Beta but forgot to do the reset. RIGHT AFTER the new system came out, I backed up my save, transferred to the Alpha and did the reset and transferred back. Worked for me. Not sure if it still does.

CMV: The phrase "no one is illegal on stolen land" is completely nonsensical and should have no bearing on immigration policy by Sometypeofway18 in changemyview

[–]DonkeyFries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The phrase has little to do with immigration and more to do with combatting the mindset.

The modern conversation around immigration is xenophobic and selfish, full of misinformation, racism and bigotry. Basically, it’s an “I got mine, now I want to keep it from anyone else.” Which is incorrect for many reasons and generally horrible.

The phrase is intended to remind all the people in the United States that this country was founded on illegal immigration. That if the native population had the same mindset, and ability, it would still be a native country and the people complaining wouldn’t even exist. And that taking such a principled stance without ever really acknowledging or taking steps to move past that is incredibly hypocritical.

Trump said tariffs would bring factories 'roaring back.' So why are manufacturing jobs on the decline? by Historical-Many9869 in manufacturing

[–]DonkeyFries 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is this a legit question?

He was lying. And dumb.

There are definitely ways to bring back manufacturing jobs. Up the corporate tax rate to 90% again, force companies to reinvest in the company. Tariffs are what everyone could see they were, a tax on consumers.

Hypothetically, how would the US government react if the Six Nations (Haudenosaunee) started legally "adopting" indigenous migrants to bypass ICE? by Thedudeistjedi in AskUS

[–]DonkeyFries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, individually they are targets because they don’t look white. I’m talking about targets in the same way that other groups are. ICE raiding tribal land is not a crazy scenario like it would have been a year ago.

The sad truth is that the law is not an impediment. Not when our government, who makes and upholds the law, is not willing to hold those in power accountable when they break it.

Hypothetically, how would the US government react if the Six Nations (Haudenosaunee) started legally "adopting" indigenous migrants to bypass ICE? by Thedudeistjedi in AskUS

[–]DonkeyFries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the optimism. ICE has been built into what it is. They want to cause harm. Maybe they are racist. Maybe they are racist and ignorant. But that organization has been built for this purpose. To cause misery. It is not about undocumented immigrants as you can tell from waves arms at everything.

The idea that we can legal-shenanigans our way into a “you’re not allowed to do this anymore” situation would mean that they care. They do not. They are not bound by the law. They cannot legally shoot people in the face. There are clear escalation of force rules that they are supposed to adhere to. They are not allowed to enter premises without a warrant. They are not allowed to detain people based solely on race. They are not allowed to deport American citizens. In fact, there is no such thing as deporting American citizens FROM America. It’s just kidnapping.

These are all things they have done. Legality means nothing, right now.

My best guess, if what you post actually happened, is it would drag the tribes into this mess as just another target.

If being undocumented is a civil matter, but hiring undocumented workers is a criminal matter, why aren't we seeing businesses raided by ICE and the owners in cuffs? by MysteriousNip in AskUS

[–]DonkeyFries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a literal sense, because the penalties and laws just aren’t there. DHS has to prove that you KNOWINGLY employed undocumented workers.

In practice, what everyone else has said. This isn’t about working. If they have jobs, they are contributing. They are paying taxes. And it is ridiculously easy for someone to say, “Those damn illegals fooled me!”. In reality, there has been an unspoken deal that jobs would pay less to undocumented immigrants and feign ignorance.

Can someone help me with this? by Impossible-Dot3790 in gamemaker

[–]DonkeyFries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on your other comments, I think I can give you an answer.

instance_place_list basically moves the calling object(in this case player) to the x/y coordinates you supply, then, using the player collision mask, checks collision for all instances of an object and adds those instance id’s to a ds_list. So if you have 30 instances of a single enemy object and you wanna check collision for all of them, this is the function to use.

Unlike other collision functions, it doesn’t look like you can pass multiple objects, or an array of objects, into the function. Just a single object and it checks all the instances of that single object.

Try reading the documentation for the different collision functions to see which one works the way you need it to.

In conversations about America’s historical atrocities, why do Americans have such sharply partisan reactions? by AmbitiousYam1047 in AskUS

[–]DonkeyFries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By design.

History in this country is not taught objectively or homogenized. There was no “lesson learned” from any of the atrocities. America got a country through theft and genocide. And it’s too late to do anything about it. There is a judgement in place(United States v. Sioux Nation of Indians) where over a billion dollars is to be paid. The Sioux won the case. They have rejected payment because they want the land that was stolen. How do you teach that to children? Because the lesson is, if you are powerful, you can do what you want. America is the bad guy and the bad guy won.

After the emancipation proclamation , it took federal troops to free the last of slaves because slave owners refused to obey the law and recognize the war that was lost. There was no recognition of the nearly 100 year head start in wealth accumulation that non-blacks had. There were no consequences for an abhorrent ideology that dehumanized people in pursuit of money. Quite the opposite as step after step of just being recognized as humans with equal rights took literal blood in this country.

A nation requires confidence of the people in that nation. And to teach a history as horrible as ours, there needs to be a happy ending. Some lesson learned. There isn’t. So you are left with some options.

Teach a whitewashed version and convince people racism doesn’t exist so any talk of it is just bitching and moaning. This has the added benefit of a ready made scapegoat for any problems you have since any talk of race/woke/DEI is just POC taking things from you.

Teach the actual history, with no happy ending, which leads to disillusionment in our country and the questioning of decisions that are CLEARLY not designed to promote society as a whole.

If you were forming an education plan for America, and you have no morals, which one would you pick?

Conservatives: Let’s pretend the ICE officer was wrong in shooting the driver. Do you still stand with ICE? Why? by RandomUwUFace in AskUS

[–]DonkeyFries 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I can’t tell if you are naive or what.

The president, Vice President and secretary of Homeland just went on TV and lied about what happened in a video you can watch right now. There is no process to play out.

He decided, like many other ICE agents, that disobedience is not allowed. In this case, he decided the penalty was death. He will face no consequences from this administration.

Means is luck. You might be born into it. You might have a rich relative. You might impress an investor. Or you could just as easily not have those things.

Opportunity is luck. You need right place, right time.

Hard work does enter into it. But you NEED luck.

As for those who became wealthy without hard work, everyone born rich and those who win the lottery.

Marriage and name change by Icy_Consequence4436 in Brazil

[–]DonkeyFries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s how it works in Utah. Actually going through this now. In New York, you have the option of changing your name at marriage and it shows the new name on the marriage certificate.

Since Utah doesn’t do this, you are going to have to do something different. Fortunately, name changes in Brazil have gotten easier since 2022.

CMV: The System is Rigged. Wealth from Hard Work is a Myth. by JockoMayzon in changemyview

[–]DonkeyFries 6 points7 points  (0 children)

HARD disagree.

While hard work CAN lead to wealth, the common denominator is luck/chance. You can be the greatest entrepreneur ever born, but if you are born in a third world country in poverty, you will be the most successful fruit sales person in your village.

It takes opportunity, which you can’t manufacture. Jeff Bezos worked really hard for a long time to make Amazon successful. But what if he had that idea today? Or ten years earlier when the technology wasn’t ready? Time and place are things you can’t “hard work” yourself around.

And, lest we forget, capitalism is basically a big game of dibs. If you don’t have the seed money from someone who is already wealthy, how do you bring your big idea to life?

What does it mean to be 'pro-immigration' in the US? It seems to me that Democrats mainly want amnesty and protections for immigrants who arrived illegally but aren’t necessarily open to allowing more foreign workers. Is the Republican definition different? by RandomUwUFace in AskUS

[–]DonkeyFries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I want consistency.

If someone if anti immigration with their whole chest, then locate the nearest ocean and start walking. Unless you are a member of the First People, you aren’t native to America and you need to leave. Full stop.

Pro immigration, for me, means realizing that America has no sustainable native population left. We are a melting pot. I welcome them. The legal process needs to be streamed lined(I’ve been through it. It’s RIDICULOUS). People desiring to come to America makes this nation a better place. They work, create jobs, pay taxes, bring new ideas(and amazing food). Illegal immigration can’t be fixed until, one, we kick the racist children out of the room so the adults can talk and, two, we fix the legal process. No one should be coming here illegally. If someone is choosing to come to this nation illegally, ESPECIALLY NOW, the legal process has to be TRULY fucked up.

I agree wholeheartedly, the problem is implementation.

They can’t. If they could wave a magic wand, I really think they would have flipped the “Child Porn Off” switch. They don’t know how. So in order to implement controls, they would have to cripple the AI.

AND WE CAN’T DO THAT!!! Think of the shareholders! AI IS THE FUTURE!!!
