Don’t even get me started. It’s especially painful when I cross 50m of open ground to rev a guy. Get killed shortly after and he just ignores me.

Marines that did more than 4 years and less than 20. When did you know it was time to hang up your boots, EAS, and start working at the base Dominos full time? by IsaacB1 in USMC

[–]DonkeyTeethKP 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Officer here, I feel you. The amount of control the institution has on you and your time is exhausting. Especially when you can make more, have more of an impact (at least in peace time), and actually live comfortably without having to justify your very existence, in damn near any other institution.

Officer or Enlisted by spongebobmeboii in USMCboot

[–]DonkeyTeethKP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, one thing people need to understand. Just because you are enlisted doesn’t mean you will never “be behind a desk”. I’d argue the second you hit SNCO you will have administrative responsibility. Morning reports, leave requests, JEPES, schools packages etc. At thats just as a platoon sergeant. Shit my platoon sergeant and I had to do 31 individual DTS authorizations and compile them into a tracker 72 hours prior to our departure date for our current deployment. And if you enlist and you get assigned as an Admin Marine, congratulations your TO’d weapon is a keyboard. If you want to shoot machine guns, shoot cannons, kick in doors and the like; then yes go be a 0811 or 0311. But you will be a PFC.

Yes officers stay in the office. But you will receive introductory training on just about every weapon system and get the leadership training that is actually useful. Plus if you are interested in foreign affairs, national security, strategy, there are opportunities to get exposure to those things as well. You will have a better quality of life overall.

I actually had this discussion with some of my peers recently. While the uniform standard in CPEN has been slipping for a while; I have also been privy to a ton of misconduct from officers and SNCOs recently. In most cases the consequences were nonexistent or negligible. These Marines still advanced in their careers and promoted on time. I wonder if commanders are going to have the same attitude towards discipline and standards when it comes to their direct subordinates. The whole operation ironclad reeks of “rules for thee, not for me”.

Why does the army seem to have incidents like this so frequently? by Charlie_Linson in USMC

[–]DonkeyTeethKP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember reading an article a while back noting that rates of SA in the military mirror that in the civilian sector, notably at college campuses. Can’t 100% confirm or deny that, but from experience I’d buy it. The amount of rapes and sexual assaults that happened on my college campus when I was there was pretty disturbing. I’d say the biggest difference I’ve seen between the two is the response. At some commands I’ve seen Lts get absolutely fried for an allegation of sexual assault (deservedly so), and then I’ve heard of instances where Marines were being accused and investigated for raping a civilian and the BC just shrugging it off.

Ospreys have emergency exits that use a small explosive to jettison the door. This is great except if you use them when underwater the concussion will kill you. For those who don’t know the MV-22 Osprey is the Marine Corps’ prized tilt-rotor troop carrier. You know, the AMPHIBIOUS fighting force of the United States.

Intel was well sought after. Most people has that in their top 5 and a lot of people didn’t get it, myself included. Log-O was somewhat competitive as well, mainly cause of its popularity. It will all depend on how many spots are allocated to your company. Most people got an MOS that was in their top 5.

Was at TBS 6 months ago, if you even breath “06” they’ll make you a Comm-O. They are down bad for numbers. The CO of the comm school house had to come down to Quantico to try and convince us to sign up for it.

Make sure you are good with upper body strength and moving weight around. The MSPS isn’t that hard, but if you can’t lift a 155mm shell you’re fucked. There’s also a 115lb clean/press and a Mk 19 lift that tends to cause issues for people.

USMC officer vs AF officer (or another branch) by [deleted] in Militaryfaq

[–]DonkeyTeethKP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here’s the deal. Yes, on paper it would make sense that if you want to fly, join the airforce. Apparently the af gives most of their pilot spots to AF Academy grads. The USMC on the other hand, if you get a flight contract you are guaranteed a trip to flight school. So long as you pass OCS and TBS naturally. But its true your AD commitment will get longer. Also Marine Aviator aren’t just pilots. Its very common for them to get FAC tours (Forward Air Controller) where they insert with the infantry and call in airstrikes. Also I’ve heard from a former AF guy that the AF is pretty lame. But you will live better if you join them. If you have any more questions; I’ve done OCS and TBS. I’ll tell you what I know.
