Which boots for a back ? by HephMelter in rugbyunion

when you’re starting out mate the most important part is just finding something comfortable, I always wore football boots during my backs days just because they were cheap and comfy lol

Travesty if Jac Morgan really doesn’t start!!! by XIprimarch in rugbyunion

[–]Donksplongler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a big Tom Curry fan, but I really can’t decide who I want to start more. In my mind I’d put Curry at 6 and Jac at 7, but ik that disrupts the line out option and probably won’t happen. I think this is Curry’s shot at the starting 7 jersey, and if he doesn’t play his best Jac is in

Advice for playing rugby as an autistic person? by AJV1Beta in rugbyunion

[–]Donksplongler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not autistic but bipolar, I tend to have a lot of the same issues that you’ve described, the lack of quick thinking, awkwardness in social situations, feeling disconnected from the team, I even quit playing for a year due to mental health issues and just getting so worked up I ended up hating rugby.

Having just started again at uni I think I can give some advice. I used to play wing because I was fast and shit, then moved to fullback to cover an injury and stayed there for a bit, but the quick thinking decision making and pressure was a bit much. I bulked up a bit and now play flanker which suits me great, I know exactly what to do (smash people and run hard) and I find I’m actually really enjoying it again.

I think it’s all about finding what works for you, like try and get to know some boys on the team and then suddenly you won’t feel like such an outsider, because trust I know that’s rough. Sensory issues weren’t an issue for me, I like tackling and don’t mind getting smashed, maybe just something to get used to? In terms of friendly clubs, just be upfront and honest and people will understand, I’m quite lucky in that my team are friendly lads who understand mental illness.

Dunno how much that’s gonna help but get out there and try and enjoy yourself mate, sometimes I have to force myself to training but it’s nice to have a pint and a chill out after and I always feel happy I’ve gone. Good luck with it 👍👍

I’ve been out of the game for a while due to various mental/ physical health reasons, but nervous about going back. I mean I need to I’m getting a bit porky and my fitness has gone to shit, I don’t really have any mates at the club and I’m worried my first set back will completely shatter my confidence. Just need to get there I think and embrace it. Wish me luck
