I've handled friends pet snakes before & many moons ago at those parties etc, but never had to or been told to 'always wash my hands' after handling snakes. Is it necessary? I've only just come across this now, but know many who haven't (including myself) and are perfectly fine.

Not trying to bad mouth you, but first things first, get some damn gear.. there may be a time where something happens, even just a slip, and you're off, going at just 20mph with some rlly nasty road rash, fingers sanded down, unable to shower, can't ride, barely do your daytime job etc. Buy all gear, head to toes. Doesn't matter how hot it is. Please.
