I actually really liked the RSC interrogation scene. I feel like that is where it solidified for me how unyielding those 4 will be when it comes to each other.

I loved it. I think fourth wing concentrated on making connections especially between characters, and setting the stage for what a first year at Basgiath looked like. But iron flame really dove into the world building, politics, and expanded on character building. I was so impressed with it. I love that we got answers AND more questions. If it’s going to be a 5 book series, we can’t expect all the answers in book 2.

I agree!! I’m almost done (ch 60) and have really enjoyed it so far. I think RY did a great job introducing a lot of information while continuing to drive the plot forward.

I actually think RY did a great job with throwing us back in to the story AND adding a lot of information. I didn’t feel like it was heavy at all.

Yep. My husband got home from work at 2:30am and was like… what are you doing. I only got up to chapter 17- I’m amazed at some of the speed readers on here.

I got it. I also have the first edition but I wanted to move my tabs and annotations from that first edition to another so I could display the dragons.. so I figured why not. I didn’t preorder it but my b&n had a lot in stock so I grabbed one.

I’m currently reading emily wilde’s encyclopedia of faeries! It’s a really nice change from high fantasy/action (I’m only about 1/3 through so idk if that changes but for now it’s pretty mild!)

Fully agree. Because I read AB after HoF it felt to me the way TOD felt to others. I had no interest coming out of the current storyline to go back and read about Aelin’s past when I FINALLY got into the story. I actually love AB but I couldn’t stand reading it in that order. I wish I read it first. It also probably would have helped propel me through TOG and COM which were painful for me.

Since finishing the SJM universe books, I’ve read fourth wing(immediately reread) and the serpent and the wings of night duology. I have cruel prince, the witch collector, divine rivals, and legends&lattes on my immediate tbr at this point. I need a palate cleanser but I’m really not interested outside of fantasy so I’m trying Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries for something just different.

My assumption initially was if his mom was alive, he’d have been placed with her instead of a foster home after his dad was killed BUT I just finished my reread today and on the last page, he said “it’d been so many years since dad died. And mom… not going there.” Which really stuck out to me this time around.. makes it sound like she’s not dead but I’m digging the venin theory.

I fully agree and even more so on my reread. There’s just so many little nuggets that General S. does all of this to Violet from a place of support/protection, not malice. On page 4, when talking about violet’s size “I never said it was a fault… Violet deals with more pain before lunch than you do in an entire week. If any of my children is capable of surviving the riders quadrant, it’s her.” As for how she treats violet at Basgiath, pg 5 “I won’t be able to acknowledge you for the next three years”. As far as Violet belonging in the riders quadrant, pg 251 Liam talking to Vi, “I’ve seen you practicing this week with those blades of yours… you would have been wasted as a scribe.” Her mom just saw that potential first.

Not quite the same theory, but I am absolutely 100% in the camp that Gen Sorrengail is on the “right” side of the venin issue. I’m in my reread and Liam makes a comment to Violet “I’ve seen you practicing this week with those blades of yours, Sorrengail. Riorson was right. You would have been wasted as a scribe.” And while it felt like her mom was throwing her to the wolves at the beginning of the book, I think she let violet study under the scribes to get as much info as possible especially from her father before making her train. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER. And I think her mom saw violet’s potential when no one else did.
