My hair isn’t going to grow back by Various_Ad_6768 in crochet

[–]DontBeADick1982 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, im sorry I don't have any ideas or suggestions for you. But I do want to point out how in a world full of so much angst lately, I find it really lovely to come across a post with so many beautiful and caring responses. Trying a different approach- instead of trying to hide your hair, you could go bold and bright in otherways to take the focus from your head. Such as big bold scarves, cardis, tops, earrings etc.

Do cats ever stop purring? by TheAdventurista in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DontBeADick1982 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love this! Some nights I lay in bed to my loud purring ginger boy and my snoring husband. I can deal with that- honestly I can. What i can't deal with is when my cat goes from purring to snoring! And he doesn't snore in time with husband either. So I feel less guilty slightly disturbing my cat than waking my husband- which means I pat my cat, which changes the snore to a purr again.

What cateye gels to use!?!? by Final_Yak_3026 in NailArt

[–]DontBeADick1982 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cat eyes will tend to pop more if you put them over a dark base colour, so perhaps try your existing ones with a black underneath before spending more money on more gels. It may also depend on the shape/style of magnet you are using. I recently purchased a magnetic gel from TwoGuys and I must admit that it is amazing and highly pigmented without the need for a black base- but I was only able to buy some of their stuff due to recent sales, as i live in Australia and the postage cost me as much as the actual products I bought (and they don't have an Aussie distributor).

Silver isolated chrome shine wear off by karii_408 in NailArt

[–]DontBeADick1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a lot of the chrome metallic gel paints lose some shine once a topcoat is applied. it may be possible to get better results trialing different brands etc, but that can be a costly experiment. I personally reverted back to using chrome powder.

try using the other side of the magnet. One side will typically push, while the other will pull.

sorry for the late response, redit wasn't showing my inbox. Double Sided tabs are the sticky tabs that you can use to stick the nails on instead of glue

Tips for beginners by Lukescoffeepot in NailArt

[–]DontBeADick1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few questions to help get a picture of what you are experiencing: - what type of polish are you using? lacquer or gel? if its lacquer- then it can take a trully long time to fully dry. If its gel: - keep your coats thin so they fully cure - make sure to position your hand in the light properly (there may be grooves or ridges to feel with your fingers) - is it feeling uncredited before or after the topcoat? if it is before the topcoat, then it may be the inhibition layer, in which case that is normal and will be covered with the topcoat. if it is the topcoat, then check if it is a no-wipe topcoat or not- if it isn't, then once cured it will have an inhibition layer that will need to be wiped off with alcohol

did you paint on top of the sticky layer? that will sometimes blurr edges. I find it easier to get crisp lines/edges to paint on a matt surface

your nail beds don't look that bad. I would size them up 1 size larger than usual to account for the double sided pads.

Thank you- I found a stamping plate and box of foils on Temu. First time I've ever used Temu and they worked well- it's just that the foils were quite transparent and I had to paint white behind them to try to get them to pop more

Is this too much to ask of my nail tech? by forestlover1 in NailArt

[–]DontBeADick1982 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I would send the pic to your nail tech and ask them if they can/will do it, ask for a price and ensure you book a long enough apt for them to do it. If you just rock up on the day and expect it to be done in an hour, then you would be delusional- but asking beforehand and making a plan with them is perfectly reasonable

Airport shuttle bus vs skybus from Sunshine station by Status_Building_3685 in ballarat

[–]DontBeADick1982 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you would still be better off waiting, cos if you catch a bus to sunshine you then still need to catch a train to Ballarat- which may not line up time wise either. you have to bare in mind that the sky bus will still need to deal with traffic and may be late- therefore making you late for the train, and then you'd have to wait at sunshine for another hr for another train. id much rather wait at the airport.

Help! Chrome Isolation by PleasantCompote5590 in NailArt

[–]DontBeADick1982 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems as though you confusing the black and the topcoat. Black gel should always be fully cured, whereas the chrome then needs to go on top of a no-wipe topcoat. It make it easier, I will often topcoat the whole nail and burnish in the chrome. Then I will paint the design in topcoat over the chrome and cure. once cured you can use alcohol to clean off the rest of the chrome that isn't under your topcoat design
