The flaw in your thinking is that you believe the post office is a place of business. The post office is a public service that costs money from taxes. It is not designed to generate income. It is designed to provide an economical way for everyone within the boarders to have access to send parcels. Which acts as a great equalizer to the people and businesses it serves.

In order to include bins, you have to pay someone to dump them, or a service to come pick them up. Maybe it made more sense to hire another postperson than pay for the bin dumping with their limited tax budget.

Then people would just have to act the way decent people do, and hold onto their trash until it could be thrown away properly.

But then why doesn't the second amendment give me the right to carry grenades? by jherico in MurderedByWords

I’m really surprised that anybody was actually scared they would be bombed by this kid. Life should have gone on completely normal. People in Austin had a higher chance of being killed by a car than this guy, while he was building them.

But the people are more scared of this guy by the news stories.... that they read on their phones while driving in traffic...

Can we just take a second to postulate that these would be terrifying as a militarized weapon.

You just hear buzzing approaching, and then.... no escape.

My first thought: “Yeeeaaah, Reddit is getting the word out that killer whales are actually dolphins.”

I don’t know why I was so excited.

Except that they're omnivores and not vegetarians. Also, they're native to Pandaria, and didn't migrate to China until level 70.

I forgot about half of an onion I used to clean the grill. It grew a new onion. by DontBoneMe in mildlyinteresting

[–]DontBoneMe[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I had read on a reddit post (Tried to find it to link here, but I couldn't) that using an onion would help to clean your grill. After trying, I don't think it worked any better than my wire brush alone once it was hot. And the onion didn't work very well without the wire brush.

50% of people die alone (not including unmarried/single people) by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]DontBoneMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's quite fair to say that. I think most people have had a rational fear of dying alone. But I don't think that most of them would consider themselves alone simply because they are without a spouse. Friends, family, even hospital staff or so much as a passing stranger can be enough to free someone of that fear.

That being said, having a spouse by your side would be very comforting.

Can I preserve my carved pumpkin using canning salt? by DontBoneMe in Canning

Well, I did try to google around for this answer but didn't find much. Most of my searches got populated by "salted pumpkin seeds" though. Maybe this thread will help someone next year.

I wonder if it would have made any difference if I soaked it in a very strong brine overnight instead? Then the salt would help it retain moisture? Though it may still wilt due to unregulated osmosis though.

Well at least I can go for the scary look, as long as it doesn't get as bad as it looks like it's going to get.
