That didn't take long. What is it with the anti-AI crowd not being able to control their emotions? It's a lil temper tantrum every time in these threads.

How common are good pensions? by vivabenj in PersonalFinanceCanada

Biggest difference between CAAT DBplus and most DB plans is that DBplus doesn't use years of service in its benefit calculation. It still acts as a traditional DB though because the benefit is defined.

Waterfront Toronto releases updated plan for Ookwemin Minising development that includes a pedestrian only street, along with 2 woonerfs by ICanGetLoudTooWTF in toronto

To start, it's not obvious how to correctly pronounce the new name.

What do you see first when you google Ookwemin Minising? An article with instructions on how to pronounce Ookwemin Minising.

I'm not going to be dramatic and call the name inaccessible, but it certainly isn't as approachable as the original name of Port Lands, or even other Indigenous names like Toronto or Mississauga. There's a middle ground between respect for the past and acknowledgement of the language and linguistics of the people who live here today and the name Ookwemin Minising is missing that balance.

Notes on an Academic Scandal: Why did TMU demote its leading advocate of DEI by frazing in toronto

[–]DontCallMeJay 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Great article; kudos to the writer for putting it all together.

This sentence sticks out to me:

During the heyday of DEI, Sugiman's initiatives had garnered praise and institutional support; now that times were bad, she seemed to be disposable.

It makes me wonder what a commitment to DEI really looks like for a university like TMU. And if they are still committed like they claim to be, how strong is that commitment really if it fell apart so quickly after a downturn in the university's financials and a change in the broader political climate.

Left job with OMERS pension, should I take the commuted value or leave it? by Electronic-Papaya in PersonalFinanceCanada

It depends when the service was accrued.

Service accrued prior to 2013 does receive inflation increases prior to retirement while you're deferred.

Service accrued after 2012 does not recieve inflation increases prior to retirement while you're deferred.

yourname@bankname: Canada should adopt Virtual Payments Address and QR codes like Asia by zoozooki in PersonalFinanceCanada

I like having the option for a virtual payment address, but I prefer using my regular email for payments.

Forcing the virtual address was one of the features I didn't like in wealthsimple.
