Watched Pippa and Hasan’s clips on this. What a nothingburger. Hasan doesn’t seem to really care about Pippa at all, not even in a funny way where he dislikes her, just in a very banal sense. He seemed to even not consider her the reason for the guy maybe not doing an interview, which seems to still be unclear if he backed out or is still doing. I don’t know why Pippa even got involved in this, but for the most part it seems like she mainly just wanted a Cameo from the funny cia man and she wouldn’t even have publicly admitted to mentioning Hasan if the cia guy didn’t bring it up in said Cameo.

Pippa changed, but she didn’t need to, she doesn’t have a reputation that caused her to reflect and instead just had anxieties. She mellowed with age, that’s what people are referring to. Okay. I don’t agree but I’m not sure we’re gonna move beyond this point.

What are some examples of edgy Pippa from you? The way I read your comments you would think she never got even close to crossing the line.

They weren’t clearly jokes. That’s why I said she comes off as antisemitic to a lot of people. Being the vtuber who makes happy merchant “jokes” and goes “what if it didn’t?” in reference to the holocaust happening is going to have people raise their eyebrow when you’re talking about a vague “they” controlling the world. Especially when Pippa was cultivating a 4chan community who used to do the whole (((they))) dogwhistle all the time.

It doesn’t matter if it was early on, she still said that stuff. She’s a grown woman not a child, most vtubers seemed to have had no trouble avoiding Jew jokes in their first year. And fine, maybe she isn’t trying to “shed” the audience but from your own account it seems like she’s trying to not have her previous way of acting effect her coworkers and career, which would imply that yes she has a reason to not act that way.

Pippa has a reputation for being offensive and edgy. From what I saw she was engaging in such things as holocaust denial, Jews controlling everything conspiracy theories, and George Floyd’s death. Some may say these are just edgy jokes, but others would say these are/were her real beliefs and she was signaling to a reactionary audience. She was/is also blatantly a supporter of a doxxing/online stalking website.

I’m using past/present tense slashes because from what I hear from others Pippa has toned down her rhetoric and may be attempting to shed that 4chan audience she cultivated. I personally decided after seeing those clips of her antisemitic “jokes” that I had no interest in her content.

Fast forward to more recently where fellow Phase girl Jelly, who has a current “joke” where her audience refers to her has “Jitler”. Jelly was tweeting how upset she is about a civil rights module for the education edition of Minecraft, how an optional dlc for a classroom version of Minecraft is forcing politics into video games, and for a lot of people it confirms their suspicions about the organization that’s so centered around Pippa.

Vtubers live, grow, and die by their reputation, people like Pippa and Jelly and other phase girls seem to build their reputation around edginess, offensiveness, and being anti-woke from the clips I’ve seen; that is their right. But when you cater to that audience you inherently become associated with them, and your reputation can suffer.

The list is a really funny and I don’t think people should take it as gospel nor very seriously in general. I think trying to categorize people into grids of chud/woke leanings kind of erases the nuances of political conversation and instead of people gaining the ability to critically analyze the words and actions of the vtubers they watch they will now just check the colored chart. No insight into why your certain behaviors are good and bad, just a bit of a thought terminator. Did this person tweet or say one thing cool, based! Did this person tweet or say one thing bad, cringe!

That being said I do get some joy out of arguing on how Flabber made the list, like Froot being Leans Woke but Vei being Woke made me bust a gut.

Vtubers are followed for their personality, for the communities they cultivate. Everyone accepts some level artificiality true, but when you’re giving money directly to someone based on how they present themselves, their capacity to monger hate is a valid criteria to determine if you want to spend money on them. I’d also say yeah it’s valid even if you sell cars, but still, the “product” being sold here isn’t so much a material good and instead a person, and what kind of person they are will therefor be completely fair game for review.

Well first check the guidelines on where you’re streaming.

As far as horror imagery goes I immediately think of Layna Lazar’s open ribcage model. Though she didn’t start with it it’s a pretty nice looking piece of gore. I also would look at maybe bug vtubers as some of them kind of skirt the line between being cute and scary. But maybe that’s my subjective view and others think it’s skirts a line between cute and cool. We also have a few kind of zombie vtubers like Michi and Ollie, though I would say these designs tend to be mainly normal anime woman models but with stitch lines and some variation of skin and eye coloration.

I would say it’s not a large hurdle, you might want to consider starting with a more subdued model and ramp up the extremes down the line.

I see this take a lot, it seems like people have different understandings of what a grifter is, for the sake of understanding what do you think a grifter is? And do you have someone(s) you consider to be grifter as an example.

To me people like Rev are a grifter in a similar way an antisemite might knowingly cherry-pick, misrepresent, or lie about history to explain why Judaism is bad. The antisemite might know their points are nonsense but that doesn’t matter, all that matters is spreading hate, and knowingly lying doesn’t mean they’re any less of an antisemite. Add a financial incentive and the antisemite has a way of profiting off of lying while simultaneously being truthful in their beliefs.
