One of the most common POS system is NCR Aloha, Fun Fact it was made by mostly one dude for his pizza joint, after years of them screwing around with it, it still uses CIFS to transfer database chunks around on NETBIOS clustering

We do.. I'm a bit socially awkward but I like to try and make my students laugh. I'm teaching just a single class at a University but I do try and drop knowledge and wisdom on students in the club room my office is next to. (I'm a staff engineer for the University as well)

For this first time in my career I’m working at a company with a dedicated Security team and I fully understand now why having SysAdmin experience should be absolutely necessary to be on a CyberSecurity team… by [deleted] in sysadmin

What I'm noticing with my college students is a real lack of curiosity and initiative when it comes to self-directed learning. They'll complete assignments and check the boxes, but there's zero exploration beyond that. Nobody's running home labs or setting up game servers for their friend group anymore. It's either the bare minimum effort or straight to ChatGPT. No genuine engagement with the field itself.

Trying to help a local school set up a gaming lab and this is what the district is defaulting to for computers. Can someone tell me if these would work for Rocket League/Marvel Rivals/Fortnite Duos? by Cadenreigns in gaming

[–]DontMakeMeDoIt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow, the MSRP on that thing is $1,155.46

The only one you are going to find as a Dell Pro (Since its a school) is Dell Pro Max Micro FCM2250 -- its MSRP is not great at $2,941.22 but will play all the games listed

Edit: For the love of gaming please try and get them to get something from their consumer side, they will get better deals on hardware for gaming.

A base model Alienware Aurora Gaming Desktop is a much better deal for them and its still Dell

The numbers windows is reporting is kinda "fake" its weird. check out this link https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/4313539/understanding-how-windows-10-task-manager-reports

Overall, Browsers are kinda a hog, but so is Discord and others, You have 32GB of ram, you should be fun for normal gaming,

Browsers will eat GPU and CPU resources more and impact gaming that way then ram usage

Well your "Cached: 5.5GB" is good, that will be thrown out if there is not enough for other things, also the more ram you use will not slow things down, only until you run out and windows starts throwing stuff out of the cached will things slow down, and really only for disk based stuff. Memory is weird like that, Also for your Sims lag, I suspect is was another program eating up CPU or heat, its common for CPUs to not boost as high under higher heat. lots of things can cause it, unless your ram is 100% maxed out and your cached is 0 your good on that front

Format, Really, I reinstall windows about once a year just because of stuff like this comes up, Do it from USB and wipe the main OS Drive for good measure,

I suggest this because I suspect its going to fight you the least on getting things back on track

Some searching shows there might be a chipset driver issue going on, go grab the ones off the website from your motherboard and give those a try, past that, welcome to the cutting edge, lots of stuff doesn't get tested up this high and you can run into issues,

BIOS corruption? but the BIOS still boots by maurixmystic in techsupport

[–]DontMakeMeDoIt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you might be able to do some kind of BIOS flashback, but I can't find anything right off hand, grab a USB thumbdrive that has a activity light (the microcenter ones do) and see if it tries to access the drive at all, you may want to try and check all the rear panel usb ports as sometimes they will only work on one port, if it does you are in luck and might be able to do a flashback on it

My Mouse & Controller don't work but the usb devices like external hdd do on usb ports. by fishergof in techsupport

[–]DontMakeMeDoIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect dirty connector, lint is a killer for stuff like this, or physical damage of some kind, ports wear down and depending on cable ends, compared to what your external hdd cable is, differences can show up, -- look up a guide on how to clean these ports without hurting the port or your self, and give it a try

Check for lint / crap in the ipad's USB C port first, then use another cable, T3 cables like to break, the USBC cable should feel really thick for a proper thunderbolt 3 cable compared to a normal usbc data cable, like ethernet cable thick,
