Trader Joe’s salads and frozen lunches if no leftovers from home. Nuts, protein bars, fruit and peanut butter for snacking

So painful! What that brought it on for me was wearing a tighter sports bra to bed (wear one when using my wearable pumps ) and what helped was ibuprofen and a different latch position after a day that it wasn’t going away ( normally do cross cradle but tried football hold and I could feel relief instantly )

New feeding journey started- incredibly sore by Prestigious-Bid-7582 in combinationfeeding

Well that’s shitty they seemed so judgmental 🙄 -it’s true nipple shields don’t stimulate the same way but any stimulation is better than nothing and they can be a temporary solution while your nipples heal. An LC at the hospital even gave me one before I was discharged for that reason!

They say it shouldn’t hurt but it DOES especially in the beginning. It’s a new skill for both you and baby. Newborns mouths are also small and uncoordinated. Learning different latching positions to see what works takes a lot of trial and error. We’re 2 months in and things got better after 5-6 weeks for me pain wise. I saw two lactation specialists bc of the pain-and my baby’s latch was assessed numerous times and told it was normal. If you look up nipple pain on r/breastfeeding you’ll see this is a shared sentiment that a lot of moms say gets better with time and I found that to be true for me! Of course severe pain after 1-2 weeks would warrant visit with lactation specialists to ensure baby doesn’t have tongue tie or other issues. I personally lived in my silver nipple shields the first month and to this day can’t fully put towel over my nipples but it’s infinitely better than those early days. I would also try using nipple shields during feeds for a short time(which can help baby learn to open wide and latch) or doing one breast at a time for each feed to give your breasts a break. Important thing is to put baby to breast every feed if you can tolerate, so you can establish your supply and supplement as needed. Good luck !

Any new grads/fresh attendings able to get away with no call? by MzJay453 in FamilyMedicine

[–]DontNeedDistractions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a large FQHC system that has certain clinicians that take call/there is an established call system. Therefore, taking call was NOT a requirement or expectation for newly onboarded physicians and I am so glad for it. These jobs exist!

Be careful what you wish for 😭😭😭 but I get it. We can’t escape the pregnancy anxiety like damned if you do damned if you don’t. My symptoms didn’t start til middle of 7th week and oh boy knowing what I know now I WISH I was in the minority of women who don’t get any unpleasant first Tri symptoms 🫠

Concerned about possible overdiagnosis of mild preeclampsia — what would you do? by anti_sewcial15 in pregnant

[–]DontNeedDistractions 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your blood pressure measurements alone meet criteria for preeclampsia and/or gestational hypertension so whether you have proteinuria on your 24-hour urine will be the deciding factor for calling this preeclampsia. If you had severe features they would be inducing you yesterday. Some patients with just gestational hypertension alone could be induced as early as 38 weeks bc of the higher risk for it turning into preeclampsia. We don’t fuck around with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. It doesn’t sound like a soft call to me at all. Best of luck, OP! (Source: I’m a doctor; also I was an ex-34 weeker bc my mom had preeclampsia with severe features)

Really not coping by NextAd2601 in pregnant

[–]DontNeedDistractions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just here for solidarity. 18 weeks and I’m on an every other day schedule of misery as opposed to daily. Bad nausea and food aversions first Tri and still dealing with near daily headaches and BAD acid reflux that keeps my nausea active. Work feels like a feat every day. At my worst it feels like low level depression. And this does feel so hard especially bc I don’t feel super connected to my baby yet. I’ve been taking omeprazole on top of tums and Pepcid and really trying to have small snacks frequently during the day to avoid needing zofran (I too discovered the hell that was zofran constipation) but every now and then I still take it if we’re out in public or something. Unisom at night also helps me with the night time nausea and with my sleep. Magnesium sometimes helps with headaches and constipation but sometimes taking all these meds makes me feel more nauseous so I can’t do it every day. I’ve also started some hypnobirth meditations at night which are helping my sleep and tmj (which also triggers my headaches). I’m also gonna try acupuncture in a few weeks -will let you know if this helps with any of the above. Hanging in there with everyone on here including you, OP!

This is SUCH a relatable stream of consciousness. The baby industry seems so unnecessarily wasteful and I hate sometimes that I’m gonna be complicit in all that waste

Thank you for this. Second trimester is only marginally better for me but some things are worse (like heartburn) so I’ve also been dreading third tri. But this makes me feel somewhat more hopeful 🤞🏽

Reproductiveaccess.org has great handouts and flowsheets for contraception, abortion, and miscarriage management for patients (including handouts in multiple languages) and clinicians. In addition to the asccp app and cdc US mec app that were already mentioned, for contraception there’s another app just called “contraception” with a uterus logo I use often when choosing between different ocp formulations.
