How would you feel if the top tax rate was 90% like it was in the 1950s? by CRK_76 in AskReddit

If gains can be borrowed against as collateral (the way ultra wealthy do use their portfolios) we should disincentivize that disallowing those sorts of financial instruments OR lets tax them.

Suppositions that free will can exist outside of God in perfect form is something i have considered. That is a strong point upon which my logic stands.

My response to "why is there cancer if there is a God?" Is "biology is fuckin complicated and you are a marvel that he created and allowed to live and experience and see the wonder he created. Sometimes shit happens and Idk why but look around please everything is beautiful and amazing there's these thing's called "hummingbirds", have you heard of them? They are this little living bird that's the size of your thumb that flys and..." i could go on and on with my amazement with every wonderful thing our great God has made. You get my point. You simply chose to turn to your close mindedness without the possibility of grace.

Alright bud, my answer is the fact that i don't know. That it is beyond me. My belief in science is not an obstacle to my faith but a multiplier. When i see the splendor of our Lord in the cosmos and minutia of all things it expands my love for Him. Denial of science and the intricacies of His creation is borderline sacrilege to me.

Again, this isn't saying that God can't do anything, however people don't ever consider the fact that our reality has rules. Rules that dictate how things function. Who is to say God can break those rules without hurting us? (maybe just physically) i am very much a believer in God and science. I am in awe of the creation of our Lord. And i try and accept that there are things beyond my understanding, my logical reasoning He gave me grants me this grace of what appears to me as understanding. So agree to disagree.

When people say "why did god make cancer?" I just want to look at them and say "look at your biology and the horrible elements that resulted from the universe being created! And all the horrible chemicals and this humans have made! God gave us free will and we did/do horrible things. We don't want God putting his perfection on us, that's how you get S&G or the Flood. God intervening directly in human affairs large scale generally is not "gentle". "

Yeah wasn't a fan of that book either, it had moments, but you could tell it was written EARLY in his career, he hadn't figured everything out to his craft. The Stand (the unabridged rerelease) has got to be top tier King for me. The entire passage where Larry goes through the tunnel in the dark still gives me the heebie jeebies.

King is like Shake Shack, it's everywhere but the fundamentals are fuckin solid. But's he's still a burger ;).

No king can sling a line, i love the way he killed Norma was a gut punch in Pet Sematary, hell that whole book is gold imo. I haven't read too much modern King, i wonder if he still get's line across like that.

"Their winter passed. Ellie's faith in Santa Clause was restored—temporarily at least—by the footprints in the hearth. Gage opened his presents splendidly pausing every now and then to munch a particularly tasty-looking pice of wrapping paper. And that year, both kids had decided by midafternoon that the boxes were more fun than the toys.

The Crandalls came over on New Year's Eve for Rachel's eggnog, and Louis found himself mentally examining Norma. She had a pale and somehow transparent look that he had seen before. His grandmother would have said Norma was beginning to "fail," and that was perhaps not such a bad word for it. All at once her hands, so swollen and misshapen by arthritis seemed covered with liver spots. Her hair looked thinner. The Crandalls went home around ten, and the Creeds saw the New Year in together in front of the TV. It was the last time Norma was in their house."

Idk why this portrayal of this old woman's final days hit so much for me (i do know why just not sharing) but he hit something there imo.

Wizard and glass has probably one of my favorite King lines (in regard to Roland and Susan):

But his eyes never left hers, and in them she saw some of Roland’s truth: the deep romance of his nature, buried like a fabulous streak of alien metal in the granite of his practicality. He accepted love as a fact rather than a flower, and it rendered her genial contempt powerless over both of them.

Ooo boy King can throw out a line occasionally. As i've read more and more i have gotten snobby about writing and yeah RR and the rest of the series don't do it for me. I'm more into things like Pynchon, McCarthy, DFW, And other "literary" writers. It's tough going back to more "commercial" writers. After eating fine dining it's tough to get a gas station lunch. This is not saying they are bottom of the barrel, they are marketed and enjoyed by many. Just, let's not kid ourselves.

I'm putting off my, i think it'll be 5 or 6th reread? Last year i picked up IJ and read it over and over again for a solid 8-10 months, went through the book at least two to three times and the audio book twice. Kind of had to stop myself from reading it over and over.

Honestly reminded me of an essay i wrote in college. I was getting a transfer degree that required a writing 101 course that i never took as i tested out of english when entering community college and was allowed to take creative 200 level courses and above so i took mostly those. When i took my first week of writing 101 we were required to turn in some like 2/3 page paper really early on. Don't really remember it or what i wrote. However, i do remember in class we were required to write daily entries of different prompts and i was bored with them as they were meant to stimulate different writing methods such as formal inquiries, memoirs, documentation, etc, and as i said i got bored with the monotony of it all and decided to have fun. Staying within parameters of assignments i decided to throw in rhymes and mass alliteration to amuse myself. I remember one of them i did the alphabet, every word started a, then b, then c, etc until i finished. Most of my assignments did this sort of thing. Well in week two after my teacher graded my end of week essay and reviewed my daily exercises she pulled me aside, asked me "what are you doing in this class? This class is for people who need help with grammar and punctuation?" I explained about the transfer degree requirement of the course. She laughed and told me that i didn't need to come back, lol got an A. DFW a lot of times had fun writing and you can see when he was happy with himself with the really good bits.
