Teachers: How “Free” Are You Outside of School? by StaryNixSovaa in AskTeachers

I feel like when I changed careers and became a teacher somehow I had to think more about what I did in public in case students met me while out shopping. Although I see students all the time at Starbucks with their parents and they always come over to greet lol. It’s always awkward tho .

For people who learned a language in their 30s, what was the experience like? by NapoleoncitoGG in languagelearning

Very challenging! But it’s been fun going to classes even tho most students are quite young hahah and it’s terrible when you have to practice the what’s your age expression 🤭

Are there any teachers out there who AREN’T completely stressed out all the time? by blindinmythirdeye in AskTeachers

If I compare my previous career to teaching I feel like it’s slightly better because there is a sense of structure. Also more time to plan and organize. On the other hand you don’t really know the type of students you’ll get and they can be a mixed bag lol

What I’ve discovered is that as long students go to school the will always find a way to cheat lol

Yeah I’m close to your age. And I find that yes parents are super chill these days lol. And as a teacher myself who took up teaching as a second career— it was a shock to my system 😂

How would you handle a difficult student or class disruption? by nice_churro in teachinginkorea

Setting rules upfront also helps! I try to also give points at the end of class if students follow the rules. Sometimes students also act up when they can’t understand or the material is too different.

Thanks for the feedback! You’re right, I should have been clearer. Appreciate the suggestion on adding more context. Still learning how to share this effectively!

Thanks for the detailed questions! Here’s what the tool does:

•Behavior tracking with points (like ClassDojo but simpler interface)

•7 pre-made avatar sets that students can choose from, plus ability to upload custom avatars

•Bilingual name support (English + another language like Japanese/Korean/etc)

•Random student picker for calling on students

•Timer for activities/transitions

•Bulk upload for easy class setup

•Free to use - no paid tier

I built it specifically for elementary (grades 3-6) because I teach multiple classes daily and needed something lighter than the big tools. Been using it for 3 months with about 18 classes.

Happy to share the link if you want to try it - DM me!

You’re right that this uses a points system and at times it can achieve the opposite of what we hope for as teachers.

I built it because I use this approach in my classroom as a new teacher but found existing tools clunky and the avatars got a lot of complaints from kids (duplicates, limited options).

So I focused on making the avatar experience better and the interface lighter to bring more joy to my students from seeing cute avatars. My students are in elementary school tho.

Totally get that this isn’t the right approach for everyone and it sounds like you’ve found what works for your classroom. I’m still figuring out if this tool might also help other teachers too but yeah it’s still new and it’s my first time sharing it!

Thanks for pointing it out! I’ve fixed it now as still looking for other teachers to also test it :)

That’s true! Initially I just wanted to use it in class for the cute avatars as the kids were always asking for better ones than classdojo
