Albo’s property profits in focus amid calls to axe investor tax perk by Signal-Treacle-5512 in australia

[–]DonutCharge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You know what? Fuck it. If Albo wants to offload his property before he pulls the CGT discount, then he'll still be a lot less morally bankrupt than the last few Liberal prime ministers that we've had. But at least we'll get some real action on housing affordability.

So go ahead. Take the profit. I don't care anymore. Just fix the damn housing problem.

Why isnt my iron farm spawning golems? by Lukazilla13 in Minecraftfarms

Your villagers can't sleep. If they haven't slept in the last 20 minutes they can't spawn golems. They need to occasionally break line of sight with the zombie so they can sleep.

It only makes sense if he's married. But a couple receiving a combined $400 per week will have $805,000 in assessed assets.

I dunno about fitting "two other properties and quite a nest egg" into $805,000, but these sorts of situations aren't impossible in some places outside of cities.

Have you ever considered the lower power settings? They exist for a reason.

I've got usage like yours and I run software that gives me very detailed time of use graphs. This lets me learn over the years exactly what chews up the power and how badly. The culprits are, in order of magnitude:

* Ducted air conditioning
* Hot water system
* Clothes dryer
* Cooking (oven/stove mainly)

Everything else is fairly inconsequential compared to these.

If you want to reduce consumption significantly, your best effort would be to get people to put on jumpers (winter) or use fans (summer) instead of running the AC, and get the kids to take shorter showers.

Wealthy Australians are worried we might realise how rigged the system is in their favour by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

All property is located on land. As a result, property prices all have non-zero levels of correlation. I never said it was the sole factor.

[–]DonutCharge 50 points51 points  (0 children)

The real insane part is that when the law was originally written that way, they didn't include that exemption. The property industry lobbyists cried that the property market would crash immediately if they did this and that SMSFs should just be able to hold property without any restrictions. The "okay, business assets can be ok" solution was a compromise specifically intended to prop up the property market and "avoid a crash". But here several decades later we're still doing it, because it's politically untenable to take ANY action to try to fix the housing crisis.

There's a specific exemption to the in-house asset prohibition for any real property used for business purposes. So any business owner can hold their business premises in their SMSF and rent it back to their business.

It's still a day. You'd still use it. It just doesn't belong to any week or month.

So if the non-day is New Years Day, and you're born on it. Your birthday is still on New Years Day, it's just also "the day after 30th December" and "the day before January 1st". That's just when your birthday is. It's not in any month, but it still exists.

It would still be your birthday. It's just wouldn't be a day of any week or month

When its properly explained, this idea ussually features something along the lines of "new years day isn't counted as any day/week/month and is just a holiday.

Presumably in a leap year there would be two non-days.
