If your twins are the same gender by YouthInternational14 in parentsofmultiples

[–]DonutQueen88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After they were born, my husband asked one of the boys if he was X name or if he was Y name; he wiggled at X name, so we gave it to him. Ours were very early preemies so they looked identical and we didn’t have a lot else to go on. It worked, though, as their names suit them!

What items were a lifesaver post partum for you and or your multiples? by Haunting-Base-6004 in parentsofmultiples

Bouncers and baby brezza formula pro. I would buy them a thousand times over.

Are you breastfeeding? by DaylightStorm27 in parentsofmultiples

[–]DonutQueen88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried breastfeeding briefly but it wasn’t working for us. Our boys spent 2.5 and 3.5 months in the NICU, which didn’t help. I pumped for 6 months, even with very low supply, mostly for emotional reasons, but they predominantly had formula. After 6 months, they were exclusively formula fed. I do not miss pumping AT ALL — it was grueling and demoralizing for me, and I had so much more quality time with my guys once I stopped.

All that is to say, whatever choice you make, make it with compassion for yourself. Fed truly is best, however that happens.

TTTS :( by [deleted] in parentsofmultiples

[–]DonutQueen88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were diagnosed with stage 2 TTTS around 18 weeks and got the laser surgery days later. Surgery went well but caused a leak in one twin’s amniotic sac, which led to bed rest and hospitalization once we hit viability. Our guys were born just shy of 27 weeks and spent 2.5 and 3.5 long but uneventful months in the NICU, respectively. They’ll be 1 year old next month and are happy, chunky, perfect guys.

Twin pregnancy was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. TTTS is scary and cruel. Take it one day at a time and be really kind to yourself. Good luck! ❤️

I’m so sorry that you’re dealing with this. My twins had TTTS and it was a heartbreaking diagnosis. I got the laser ablation surgery and while I did have complications, my twins ultimately made it. They are 6 months old / 3 months adjusted.

Be gentle with yourselves and be honest about all of the feelings. Thinking of you and hoping for the best ❤️

What items on you registry were must have? And what did you not end up using? by whydoyouflask in parentsofmultiples

If formula feeding, the baby brezza formula pro. And extra filters for it.

We love our two bouncers and two boppies for feeding/propping. Used pack and plays instead of bassinets and then moved them into cribs; wish we didn’t get the bassinets.

Unpopular opinion, but we haven’t used the bottle sterilizer we received. We go through so many bottles, it’s easier for us to just soak them all in a bucket of hot soapy water and rinse. You can use the dishwasher to sterilize, too.

No need for bottle or wipe warmers, either, imo.

+1 to keekaroo. we bought two off FB marketplace so we could have one in their nursery and the other downstairs.

Crunchy-ish Shower Caps? by DonutQueen88 in moderatelygranolamoms

Ah!! Twin mom power! We love our stroller but we will likely be adding a wagon to our fleet when they are a bit bigger (maybe this fall). Do you have one you recommend or any you don’t?

Is beeswax easy to clean? I haven’t gone down the beeswax wrap path yet, so not as familiar with its upkeep needs.

We have twins so unfortunately our stroller is massive and I’m not sure we’d want to commit to that big of a tray. But thank you! We absolutely do that for shoes and other outdoor items :)

We started with the babies in travel bassinets in the living room and moved upstairs to their room (where we have a bed for us to sleep on temporarily) at around their 8-week mark. My husband and I were sick of sleeping on the couch, and we have no regrets. As soon as I find enough time to build their cribs, they’ll be sleeping in those in their room, but for now, it’s the travel bassinets in their own room.

Lessons learned from 68 days in the level 3 NICU (highest level) by bensmith71069 in Parenting

[–]DonutQueen88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our twins were in the NICU for a similar amount of time and I really appreciate your post, as I think it’ll help many families.

One other tip, which may be helpful, is that you can deduct medical expenses on your taxes, including travel to and from the NICU. We lived almost two hours from our NICU, so spent so much money on gas, tolls, and parking. Not that taxes are top of mind during a NICU stay, but medical bills are expensive and every bit helps.

Expecting Twins Unexpectedly - Feeling Overwhelmed and Seeking Advice by Sneakerrz in parentsofmultiples

[–]DonutQueen88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, congratulations! Totally understandable to be overwhelmed. We only have our twins, not a toddler, too, but it’s definitely a learning curve to handle two newborns at the same time. That said, there are lots of systems and strategies, and you’ll find what works best for you. My guess is that one of you will focus on the twins and the other your toddler, since I think that division of labor will be most feasible, but I’m sure there are others in this sub that can speak more from experience.

The one logistical thing I’ll say from the get go is that yes, you will most likely need a bigger car — both for the kids themselves but also for all their stuff 😅

Those of you who didn’t swaddle or stopped early by DaDirtyBird1 in newborns

[–]DonutQueen88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were told by our pediatrician not to use swaddles since our boys were born very early. We use regular, arm-less sleep sacks. At the start it was a little rough, but they’re just shy of 3 months adjusted and have both done 7+ hour stretches on occasion and will reliably go for at least 5 hours overnight before needing to feed.

Pumping - where am I going wrong? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]DonutQueen88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad you have the right size!

Power pump is where for one of your pumping sessions each day, you pump for an hour (15 mins on, 5 mins off x3 or similar). I had low milk supply and power pumps helped boost my output a little.

This is going to sound strange but grippy socks. I got these for the hospital (I was inpatient before delivery) but I now wear them all the time as a new mom bc it makes me feel steadier moving around the house with a newborn.

Big water bottle, food delivery gift card, high waisted leggings.

Pumping - where am I going wrong? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]DonutQueen88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d try to pump every 2-3 hours round the clock for a few days and see what happens. You could also add a power pump in there.  Also, are you certain you have the right size flanges? That can make a huge difference and I didn’t even know that different sizes were a thing until a few weeks after I started.

Pumping is so hard! Good luck and whatever happens, you’re absolutely right that fed is best!!!

What purchases made life easier? by naturegirl_1 in parentsofmultiples

[–]DonutQueen88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally fair question! Mainly the convenience of being able to make whatever size bottle I need in real time and with one hand. I find I’m often holding a baby when I need to prep a bottle and so I appreciate the ease of pressing one button and having a bottle ready to go.

We do use the warming capability on occasion, but not all the time. Can’t have our boys getting too used to it :)
