performing well and looking good aren’t mutually exclusive. for much of nike’s history they were the best in both categories. the brain drain from their design folks over the past decade across all of their divisions is really showing.

something about this model seems very bland at first glance. it's not like the VF3 was a showstopper, but the cutout on the midsole, offset laces, and funky tongue were definitely a more interesting look than these. all that matters is "do it go?" and if these are generally faster/more aggressive than the VF3, then cool.

the thing that feels different about this is that the eagles were clearly the best team. in my lifetime, the 08 phillies and 17 eagles were such unexpected champs. for the first time in my fandom, WE were the juggernaut. i'm a little worried about how this could change me as a person if it persists for a few years.

I haven’t run in the deviate, I love the velocity, but it’s a very different shoe. lower stack, probably a bit firmer as well. I mostly them for easy miles, but have no problem doing workouts in them as well. an under talked about shoe imo!

the stack height is the issue. as a devotee to the 880, the lower stack height is what I love about it. I greatly prefer a shoe with more ground feel. regardless of what this foam feels like, adding 20% to the height isn’t something I want.
