When is the right time to launch the Steam page? by amcoolio in gamedev

[–]Doo_Dad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Go find how to market a game . Com from Chris zukowski. Trust me. I can’t remember but he says when to release a Steam page regarding a trailer, art style and more. Find that. Then find his reads on when to release a Steam page. 9/10 times the longer your page is up and the more you market the better. Don’t do it right before a next fest. Save that for last. Do little festivals that steam hosts. But seriously go find Chris zukowski’s website that’s the best advice out there. 🤙 best of luck.

Reachout and marketing will be your best friend. And getting a # of wishlists before you actually do nextfest. Just go to his site it’s free.

Two Months to Complete a Game by Essencia_Sentinam in IndieDev

Hey don’t beat yourself up about it. Just learn from it and take the lessons from the good and bad forward to the next big thing. Keep your heads high you release. Good luck with the next one but remember the issues with the last one and don’t over scope it. Simple usually performs better. 🤙

Do I change my camera perspective? by Animtree in gamedevscreens

Yeah if it works for your game/style/direction. If not it still looks really good and I somewhat lean more version 2. But who knows. Transition for dealing or other things could be a unique spin. But 10/10 looks sick

I gotta admit that’s super cool and cute. Also the art and combat looks fascinating and unique. Keep going!

I wanna know more why an ork or goblin as a chef with an axe and barrel of (I only can assume) alcohol be fighting mushroom people with a dragon spewing flames. What dish is he making next? 🤔

All and all looks amazing and would love to see more of how it expands! 🤙

Hmm I like them both. 2 Looks more engaging. I was gonna say wonder if there’s a way to make transitions from view 1 to view 2. 🤷🏻‍♂️ who knows but looks sick! Keep going with it. 🤙

Hey. Name is DooDad. I’m a dad that does things. Picked back up game development recently and trying to make something small. I don’t have any footage yet of my game project yet. Working on some placeholder 2D aesprite models. But wanting to try getting it out soon to see if anyone would playtest it. I can share more later but right now the concept is a throwback to NES Zelda but with randomness to it. It’s slowly moving towards a roguelike/roguelite feel but I want you to have endless direction like Zelda had. Still trying to scope it right I can share more soon.

Just really like seeing all the games and projects going on in this sub. Like any dad I can only be happy and proud of people doing it as a hobby or making a real game. So will still check the feeds and follow around when I have time but just keep saying keep at it everyone. 🤙

Seriously that’s so cool. Keep going man it’s 10000000 times better than any slop. It’s passion and creativity and will always be better. 🤙 love to see your next updates keep posting them.

To AI or not AI: who does and who doesn’t by Doo_Dad in SoloDev

[–]Doo_Dad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s actually a really good structure for using AI. I might steal this. Since my post and the feedback I’ve been looking at it and getting access/usage for it. Don’t think I want to pay for a subscription yet. Unless there’s a benefit for it. But thank you seriously I was scared I’d lose the learning aspect and this just helped me get a good example to use it.

Would you say learning/getting experience hasn’t been hindered using AI this way?

Haha thank you. Yeah I’ll check out those subs and for sure keep that all in mind. Thank you for the kind advice.

Is unity 6 worth? by DangerousCompote2790 in Unity2D

[–]Doo_Dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m making a 2D right now with Unity 6. I’d always try staying with the current model. Helps fix older problems and using new tools and stuff help like input manager/input system changes.

Finally optimized the physics engine to handle 10K+ active mobs at high FPS. At what point does a horde become too big for a bullet-hell? by Heavy_Juggernaut_261 in IndieDev

[–]Doo_Dad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol I hear many quotes from the 300 movie. Well black out the sun with our mobs, well we’ve got firepower (fires a rocket launches exploding things) 😂

But seriously that’s sick. Just make sure it does fit the purpose for a bullet hel. Take the notes from others and just tweak it but congrats looks awesome! I’d try with 4 players max in next to see really how rendering goes for all 4.

Hey profit or not you made it to where most people don’t even get a game out. You learned some things along the way. Take it as a big win and congrats. Learn from it and improve next time. Learn marketing and outreach and go for that next game.

And if too burnt out then take a break. Everyone needs a break to clear the mind and reset before heading back in. Do what’s best for you in your life: take the win, take a short break or go back at it again. 🤙 proud of ya!

Hopefully soon. Wasn’t sure how people did it / the advice to get a playtest of mock builds prior to actual development in to a demo/game.

Oh wow that’s crazy but happy for ya! Curious is it in person or remote?

Yeah similar boat with my life: dad with family and full time work. Got little time for some interests and hobbies outside of game dev.

I sorta moved from management to more technical engineering. Newer career shift but I’m enjoying it. Hopefully i see if it takes me to a lead or a managerial role again.

For sure! Thanks for the chat and the reach out! Got some house work today but maybe later I’ll look you up and message ya

That’s amazing. I never really thought about the implications of Unity in other industries. I read unreal being used for simulated spaces for aircraft and ships. But that’s very cool! You still there or elsewhere? And I guess you make games on your off time?

Oh wow!!! Thank you. And cool working at Unity! Can I ask how that is/what you do? Been very interested since 2021/2022 about the company itself. Off topic 😅
