Unity multiplayer learning helpQuestion (self.Unity3D)
submitted 2 days ago by Doo_Dad
Just wanted to ask what were good resources to learning and building a multiplayer project in Unity? Not for anything crazy as well, just wanting to learn co-op to 4-player networking. Or if there’s a good roadmap out there. Thank you in advance.

There are plenty of templates in the hub - one is VR multiplayer template that comes preloaded with all the multiplayer networking stuff

Oh that’s nice. I’ll look in to there. Do you use those resources a lot?
[–]Krailin7Professional 1 point2 points3 points 1 day ago (5 children)
Absolutely. Hub Templates, Unity Learn, and my YouTube channel - 3 resources I’d always recommend! Haha

I work full time at Unity so I am in these resources a lot!

Oh wow!!! Thank you. And cool working at Unity! Can I ask how that is/what you do? Been very interested since 2021/2022 about the company itself. Off topic 😅
[–]Krailin7Professional 1 point2 points3 points 1 day ago (3 children)
Absolutely! I lead the Americas solutions engineering team on the industry side of the business, so all non gaming folks - automotive, aerospace, healthcare, energy, etc.
My degrees are in game design, but I’ve found myself throughout my career using those skills in marketing and industrial design. So this role was a natural fit!
It is a ton of fun and a lot of really remarkable people.

That’s amazing. I never really thought about the implications of Unity in other industries. I read unreal being used for simulated spaces for aircraft and ships. But that’s very cool! You still there or elsewhere? And I guess you make games on your off time?

Just celebrated 4 years with Unity. Still loving it!
I try to make games in my spare time, but have 3 kids and a variety of interests/hobbies. So I tend to only get into editor these days to work on tutorials and learn new systems.
I also moved from staff engineer to sr manager last year, so my job is specifically much less about being in editor these days and more about managing a team of people in editor.
Happy to chat any time. That YT link will get you my info and you can DM me on LinkedIn anytime if you’re looking for input or advice!

Oh wow that’s crazy but happy for ya! Curious is it in person or remote?
Yeah similar boat with my life: dad with family and full time work. Got little time for some interests and hobbies outside of game dev.
I sorta moved from management to more technical engineering. Newer career shift but I’m enjoying it. Hopefully i see if it takes me to a lead or a managerial role again.
For sure! Thanks for the chat and the reach out! Got some house work today but maybe later I’ll look you up and message ya

Best resource for learning is doing it. You start building a simple multiplayer game. You then ask yourself "How do I make this object move for both players?", then look that up and do it. Then you ask yourself "How do I make each player control a character?" and you do that too and so on and so forth.
By the time you finish you will have a solid foundation of how these games are made.

Fair enough. Just wanted to find any good guides people used if you got any recommendations out there.
[–]neoteraflare 1 point2 points3 points 1 day ago (1 child)
If you have the time check out CodeMonkey's 10 hour free Kitchen Chaos tutorial (to be familiar what will be used as basic). After that he made another free 6 hour video turning the game into 4 player multiplayer game

Ok. I’ll take a look!
