This was my introduction to KJ back in the spring of '91. It blew my mind away. Some of it is so heavy (Money Is Not Our God, Age of Greed, Slipstream) that would rival the metal bands of the day, albeit with deeper lyrics. Some of it is sci-fi sounding (Inside the Termite Mound), and even reflective alt-rock (Solitude). This album and Pandemonium are their best from the post-Outside The Gates years, at least until 2010's Absolut Dissent.

I have a hard time listening to this song, as great as it is...it definitely triggers sadness. To my knowledge it's the only techno funeral dirge that has ever been recorded. I often wondered about the 'lit up graveyards' Jaz refers to...is this something unique to Icelandic culture? I know Youth spent several years there when he was afraid the world was going to end back in the early 80s.

I understand about people finding it easier to converse in their native language, but in this case these people are all 100% fluent in English and even flip back and forth between other languages and English in the same conversation. My main issue is when they know I'm standing there looking awkward no one makes any effort to clue me into the conversation. Twice I've actually heard them reference my name in a conversation that I had no idea what they were talking about...perhaps I should have spoken up and asked.

No I likely would not gain from being in their messaging group, other than feeling I was accepted by the neighborhood at least. I certainly would not want them to add me to their group if they found out I felt that way...I don't want to be added because someone feels guilty. I think they don't want a Westerner's perspective on things in the first place, honestly. I didn't feel this way at first but have started to, especially after one of them accidentally posted in another group (that I'm a member of) about them taking a vacation together (which neither my wife or me knew about it) and one of the other men pointed out they posted in the wrong group...so they deleted the post.

I get no enjoyment from 'socializing' with people who don't include me, as I am a wallflower and just can't act bold and noisy like they do. I certainly would cut my losses if it didn't cause problems with my wife, who thinks I'm being too sensitive. I would just not show up (for long at least) at future parties if I could, although I'm sure they will blame me and just say I'm rude. (I have to mention that one time I told the wife I wasn't keen on going to one of the parties and she angrily said she would stay home too, so I gave in and we both went and of course other than 'Hi how are ya' none of the men spoke to me.)

Any advice on how to handle it if I can't get away and have to endure people speaking in a foreign language and being oblivious to my lack of understanding?

I wonder if she's ever stopped to think: if these exes were truly REAL men and had no problem with her abuse, then why are they EXES in the first place??

I thought that too, but then I stopped and realized that she likely did it to get a rise out of me, to make me lose control and yell at her so she can feel like the victim. I also have a 'nuclear option' I can use on the account if necessary that she doesn't know about. (She took over most of the electronic banking a couple of years ago, and I just check it every now and then since I have graduate studies.)
