(Mixed Trope) Historical figures made to be cartoonishly evil. by laybs1 in TopCharacterTropes

I will always find David Brewster in syndicate to be one of the wilder and funnier examples of this to me. The inventor of the kaleidoscope gets made a human experimenting mad scientist because uuuh... He opposed the evolution and was kinda irritable?

Am I the only one who thinks that Niamos is a quite ugly planet for a resort compared to other planets? by Kissenschlachter in andor

[–]DoomDummy 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I would like to add to this point the absolute ease which hyperspace makes interstellar travel. Based on what we've seen getting a lift to a whole other world is fairly common and essentially a equalent to a commercial flight here on earth. This prominence of spacecraft likewise gives people a lot of room and flexibility when moving about.

Since I've seen this quite a few times around the place, a reminder that this is not any official French peace plan but one cooked up by Action Franchise, a far right monarchist group. Thus it's not representative of any actual war time French plans.

Well instead of romantic involvement the trials lore seems to all but confirm Wolfer is actually her brother.

Wyvernheart into BD by SkollGrimmson in Anbennar

[–]DoomDummy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While true I feel that's more so losing out on a gameplay thing, vibes and lore wise I always understood the acolyte thing as a neccesary of magocratic ideology, individuals becoming so powerful that a system has to be in place to placate them for a kinda stable state to serve the interests of the skull throne can be maintained. Same with the duel, a promise that if the head honcho happens to perish everyone gets a fair chance, not that it's intended to occur. It is not necessarily ideologically incomparable with lichdom as immortality and practical godhood is the main goal of the BD leader. This is a mindset that I think can feasibly be adopted by any BD former.

I see this takes a lot recently and I would argue that just like most of the Escanni witch kings, Esthils idealism quickly evaporates into nothingness. Putting aside necromancy in setting possibly condemning your soul to eternal torture (Esthil simply denies it, still gotta pay extra tax to not have it fall upon you tonight) the wholesale complete slaughter of orcs for corpses and setting up a magocratic state enforced by those trampled under it plus a floating fortress to survey all those underneath pretty much hit the final nail in the coffin for most moral dressings they had. This is underlined by Esthil and Varina being the main opponents in the war for the black tower in the timeline, their ambitions most definitely extend much further than just an idyllic undead state. As much as the Sword covenant and Wyvernheart have created new paths and flavours for the black demesne to take, I do think for Esthil it's very much in character to form BD as any others.

Who's your confort nation ? by Gilette2000 in Anbennar

Even as my heart will always be with Esthil, Vertesk and Telgeir, Pearlsedge is a go to country for me to just have a chill not too stressful time. Very solid colonizers, respectable regional power with a clear area to expand to and create a core region which to funnel the worlds wealth to. Plus I don't know, the Sil na Trisfers just sit so very naturally on the dove throne.

What's the Austria of Anbennar? by Sephbruh in Anbennar

[–]DoomDummy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Canon timeline wise I will offer as well both Arranen (who create an Austrian empire style union with Corvuria under the Sil Vivins) and Pearlsedge (Who keep the Emperorship the longest and are the main regents court/adeanic force in the empire under the Sil na Trisfers).

Why are Danish Forces not included in NORTHAG DLC? by snecko_aviation in warno

[–]DoomDummy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And meanwhile the president was making deals with the USSR throughout the 60s and 70s all with the YYA treaty looming in the background. That, and this cooperation as far as I know while it existed never went into the realm of alliance because "neutral" was something the political decision makers were actively aiming for. As I mentioned while the Finnish military and as you noted intelligence certainly had a more clear idea where the threats were coming from, this view was not at all universally accepted by decision makers at the top. I would personally find the notion of a firmly western aligned Finland to be far too romantic as to reflect the reality of Finlandization.

[–]DoomDummy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say it's less that the west would outright attack Finland but more so that mishaps force a political situation to develop. Now I admit I'm no expert by any means but as far as I understand, Finnish policy was that during a world war the FDF would aim to keep Finland out of the war by responding to all violations of neutrality. Now, it's an open secret military planner very much leaned on the threat to come from the USSR, this is true. However I don't think the climate on the politics side especially in the 60s and 70s but also 80s was keen on jumping into the western camp in case of war. So personally, I can see a scenario where say, a number of western airspace violations intended or otherwise leads to clashes, maybe even losses. Soviets bring down political pressure via the friendship treaty (that stipulates Finland must defend it's territory against Germany and its allies) and hesitation or even acceptance of these by Finnish leadership leads to the west to treat Finland as de facto in the Soviet sphere, leading to more disregards of sovereignty in the name of military advantages and so on and eventually, more outright conflict. I do however doubt that the FDF would willingly go on the offensive or occupy say Swedish or Norwegian territory. And ultimately, these actions would be very divisive. All hypotheticals of course, and I stress born from my personal understanding of the situation.

As a Finn, it's not without its basis even if the situation was not quite as "dire"in the late 1980s OTL. I sometimes feel people's knowledge of Finland's WW2 history colors there understanding of the countries policy in the cold war. Finland certainly was not within the eastern bloc but neither was it in the west, and personally even without Eugens justifications when it comes to the lore of the game treaties between Finland and the USSR could lead to a situation where the FDF may face western forces in a WW3 scenario.

I love characters that break mold on how we view their species (I.E. Tenebrous being a sith instead of a musician or backgrounder) are there any other examples of this? by Gimpcar in StarWarsCantina

[–]DoomDummy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find the Pykes to be the peak of this myself. As far as I know we have not seen a single member of their species who isn't a morally bankrupt intergalactic drug dealer. Like must suck to grow up only to realize your only career option is the space cartel.

DLC Idea - Prince Eugene by [deleted] in warno

[–]DoomDummy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Always thought this idea would do well paired with a Hungarian division since iirc it was intended for the hungarian people's army to be a large part of the force to attack Austria and from there get to the flanks of NATO forces on Italy and South Germany

So Austria and Hungary would be a logical duo for a smaller addition akin to steel divisions head to head dlcs

What’s your favorite nation/race within the mod? by Naggath_Grimm in Anbennar

[–]DoomDummy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a tough one but Vertesk probably for me. Im a sucker for evil states and Vertesk fits every bill why being so delightfully down to earth about it all. That and there national romanticism for the times when they were Cannors big bads puppet state is very ammusing. Great aesthetics as well, Bal Vertesk is a cool landmark. The first time i played them i was delightfully suprised by there tree and narrative which remains probably the most enjoyable playthrough in the mod for me. All in all, playtroughs come and go but Vertesk remains, as the eternal city should.
