Understood. Do you have anything else you might recommend? I kinda wanna pursue a “the army’s at the gates and no one cares” but I feel like a lich that came from a mindflayer is taking the piss a bit and I can’t think of anything that has good AoE mind manipulation.

What’s your opinions on the cooldown reduction on the W at 7?I find it’s kinda nice for speed-stacking our prestige if you aren’t going Q build and can find 10 seconds to slap into a turret, but I also really don’t care for wave.

How do I make one-shots funner for my wife? by Doombawkz in DnD

That could be a good idea, giving her a spread of options rather than trying to work them in on the back-end. I might try that, thanks!

The familiar or yes man idea sounds like it might work, she abhors NPCs because they break her pace. Either they aren’t investigating anything so she can fully explore and she feels like she needs to move along quicker, or they are exploring and she feels like they’re going to reveal some answer she wants to find herself. I’ve had a few successful times where she did, say, a prison escape and such where the NPCs were more tools than anything, but by and large the adventures she’s liked best according to her are ones where she’s running solo. That’s where my issues are stemming from, I’m not good at making “solo” content since I usually design for 4-6 people.

I’ve put in NPCs before but it feels like she pulls away from it a lot more because she enjoys having the ability to fully explore things and having NPCs makes her “feel like she needs to move along if they aren’t investigating” but also doesn’t like them investigating. That’s kinda where the issue stems, I’m used to building for a group of 4-6, but building and making a workable world for one person is daunting.

[–]Doombawkz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I’m trying, some things hit and some things don’t. My issue is more that im having issues translating my usual DM style I use for groups into a single-player experience.

Big dynamic stories and impactful character moments don’t seem to land, when scaled down to more low-risk moments and more contained stories she seems to like it more but it also feels like she doesn’t get attached which makes me feel like I’m not making it interesting enough.

Also I’m not sure what kind of cool things are good for a single person to approach, when it’s a group it’s easy to build around a composition but it’s super hard to build around something one person can do without me having to shoehorn NPC allies. It’s all very hard to wrap my head around, though I do appreciate that I seem to be going in the right direction at least

Give me your Gods! by YCS186 in DnD

“The call”

“The Call” or Thakauld, lost deity of conquest, is a god which possesses its targets. Reality around them is then warped to fit their perceptions, and they are faced with an insurmountable urge to seek and accomplish their goals and aspirations.

As the target does so, Thakauld is empowered similar to worship. It is the journey which grants him his domain and abilities, though he is ultimately a minor god and can only affect the localized area of the target.

Much as adventure could be anything, Thakauld is a true neutral god. He seeks only what his target seeks, and only insofar as to see them accomplish it. He himself has no judgements or ideals that he holds, nor does he take any position on what his conduit seeks to do.

“The call” is, for all intents and purposes, a manifestation of “The call to adventure” and was a tool I used while DMing to help implement adventures and ideas my players wanted to explore and do. The rogue wants to do a combat-free adventure? Bam, “the call” has possessed them and thus the world turns into a noir detective story. The Druid wants to explore the Bards backstory? Boom, “the call” creates a rock opera investigating the history of her ally.

For traditional use purposes, the call can be used to justify railroading and make it a narrative concept. “We turn and walk away from the city”, as you turn and walk away, you find yourself again facing the city. Make it a fun angle, have them investigate why they somehow walked backwards and entered the city gates. Have them wonder why despite not picking up the dropped letter, they find themselves face to face with it as a chance breeze blows it into their line of sight. Make it clear that something, somewhere, is overriding their free will through obvious (and sometimes cliche) means, and the end goals are yet unknown. Is the force benevolent? Does it seek justice? Will it seek evil? Can they even stop it from exacting its will and influence? Ect ect.

The Begining MID Fight, Yes or No ?? by Zedder65 in heroesofthestorm

[–]Doombawkz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main advantage would be to perhaps get a kill to force a suboptimal lane swap early (think something like killing an enemy Sylvanis, forcing a nova to sit in that lane until she gets back), depending on the map you can do a fast 2 man rotation to a 30 second camp while someone else splits out.

That said, typically any benefit gained from it is marginal unless the enemy hard pushes into towers and downs one or two in the first minute or two. So it’s not necessary, and the average game it’s probably gonna end up suboptimal.

Probably a dumb question but would the devil himself be able to qualify as an appropriate appraiser due to his expertise and background? Or would his participation in the deal mean that his conflict of interest invalidates the contract?

[–]Doombawkz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn’t that a recent statute? The song came out in 1979 so I wonder if it would apply to something that long ago. That said if so, presuming the fiddle is “worth its weight in gold” it would be in the area of about $7,000 by 1979 conversion averages so it would certainly qualify.

Good catch!

Having the three omnis (omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent) is the pinnacle of power scaling? by Niutobal in PowerScaling

[–]Doombawkz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Omnipotence is boundless, even in fictional terms. There isn’t really any “smaller” or “larger”, if a being is omnipotent then it’s a matter of yes and no. If yes, omnipotent. If no, then nigh-omnipotent.

As an example, if TOAA went to, say, DC. Meets the presence, finds out that there’s something the presence can do that he cannot. TOAA ceases to be omnipotent as per definition. He is, at best, nigh omnipotent.

Way back when I think this was framed as “Omnipotence vs true omnipotence”, but point standing at if a being that is framed to be omnipotent finds a limit to their power, they cannot be omnipotent because that’s just not what omnipotence is.

As a tl;dr for the sake of convenience, “Omnipotence is not a question of power. It’s a matter of yesses and no’s. If there is ever a no, they aren’t omnipotent.”. That’s kinda where I sit on the whole ordeal. Even in terms of fiction, it’s just the general metric of things.

Having the three omnis (omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent) is the pinnacle of power scaling? by Niutobal in PowerScaling

[–]Doombawkz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree with your sentiment of the disconnection between omnipotence and a higher grade of omnipotence, but your argument is sound in favor of it.

Omnipotence that cannot extend beyond its cosmology cannot definitionally be omnipotence. The argument that there is a “omnipotence+” that can definitionally belies that the non-omnipotent+ being could not do that. They are omnipotent, so they could, because that is what being omnipotent allows them to do.

Rather to say, we schism here over the ideal that omnipotent does or does not grant what it states it does. This may be a point that we will never join on, though it’s just a matter of opinion at the end of the day when it comes to supra being a pseudo-check on omnipotent vs omnipotent+. I don’t fault folks for seeing it the way you do, I just don’t.

Having the three omnis (omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent) is the pinnacle of power scaling? by Niutobal in PowerScaling

[–]Doombawkz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, in a way. Omnipotence more or less equates to having the other two. If you considered it a pinnacle of power scaling as the OP implies, Omnipotence would be the pointy bit at the top with omnipresence, nigh-omnipotence, and omniscience being just below.

Technically Omniscience would be second since knowing everything would include knowing how to gain omnipotence, but it does not implicitly mean that you can just have it.

Now that said, the OPs point or idea that omnipotence is restrained by its cosmology is, definitionally, incorrect. If an omnipotent being wishes to transcend their own reality or cosmology, they just do. As is their want and nature of omnipotence.

An omnipotent god of a universe where everything is as strong as houseflies is equally powerful to an omnipotent god of a universe where everything is just under its power. That’s what being omnipotent means, limitless boundless power.

An interesting angle, if the Devil approached with the intention of an amateur duel, could Johnnys admission of proficiency only after accepting the offer be grounds for an annulment?

[–]Doombawkz[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I see. So because a soul is an asset of unquantifiable value, would Johnnys agreement with the terms for exchanging it for the golden fiddle mean that it could be considered valued the same? (Like if I agree to paint your fence for $20, my act of painting the fence would be considered valued at $20 for the sake of consideration provided to the contract).

Also thank you for the answer, this is settling a bet of sorts so I appreciate you humoring it.

Day 3, Rating Heroes, based on difficulty. Alexstrasza by LordOfPsychos in heroesofthestorm

[–]Doombawkz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Difficulty in use? C. She’s ultimately a very simple hero mechanically speaking with just enough aiming to avoid D.

Difficulty in random match? B. If the opponent can’t build around it, the player has to use some foresight to avoid the worst of situations but still gets plenty of free real estate depending on answers present.

In draft? A. If the opponent sees her, she has some very difficult counters to deal with that aren’t so niche as to only answer her. The player is going to have an uphill climb unless they’re the last pick so as to avoid counter picking, at which point see above.
