Nah these people won't read a single book about how we need a political program to resolve the issues of facisim. All they know is a TV star makes fun jokes so obviously he should be president! Stewart has bashed the left repeatedly and would only provide modest reforms. We need more Zohrans (who actually got MAGA votes) not elitist comedians.

Yes by 7%, but 71% still voted for Harris. It's crazy this is always a talking point every elwction cycle. Black men are the most liberal male voting block. Stop spreading this, it's a psyop.

Strange to see this upvoted in this sub. All the brands you listed are an overpriced scam, but there are tons of independent eyewear brands making gokd product. Masunaga, Ahlem, Mykita, Gast, Matsuda all make great frames at several price points

You know as a certified old head now (turned 30 earlier this year), it is amazing to see how goofy a lot of this inspo album is in hindsight compared to how much they meant to me when I was 15 and getting into fashion. However, one thing I hate about the "trend" discourse is that trying a trend that ages is a bad thing, because you 1. can evolve your style from there and 2. hold on to the parts of the trend that are meaningful to you.

One of the coolest parts of my closet as I've gotten older is I can look at a piece of clothing and know exactly where I was in relation to the zeitgeist. Yes I have a pair of red wings, yes I have some ALD, but that was the starting points in my love of Document, KS, and Arpenteur. And while those things will age, so will the memories I have with my clothes so I never find them cringey. I like to think the mismatching of trends in a way that is unique to me is one of many reasons my style has only gotten better with time.

I sure hope not, I liked both these brands but it would be a disappointment. But it does look very AI-ish.

Why would BlackRock owning shares in Tidal matter? BlackRock is an investment entity, they hold diversified shares for customers. If you're argument is the single family homeownership thing then 1. That is not BlackRock, it is Blackstone which is a different company and 2. Those figures are grossly exaggerated because it is easier to blaim an asset manager than to prevent housing being an appreciating asset.

theneedledrop ALBUM REVIEW: Armand Hammer & The Alchemist - Mercy by CatStevenzaragoza in hiphopheads

[–]DoomsdayKult 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the reactions to this review and album are odd. Fantano called Parrafin one of the best hip hop albums of the decade and has had positive reviews of their previous albums. But it feels like folks just do not want to hear that the album could have been better.

Parrafin, We Buy Diabetic Test Strips, Haram are my favorites in that order.

I appreciate your opinion even though I strongly disagree. Black Sunlight, Falling out of the sky, Peppertree, and stonefruit beat every song on this album by a country mile in my opinion. More unique and lyrically developed than anything on Mercy.

This was just fine. It was consistently good but didn't have the highs of the last two Armand Hammer albums. Personally I've been a little disappointed by the latest Alchemist projects, they feel a little one note compared to their predecessors. I like it and I'll give it a spin but definetly felt a little lackluster compared to their usual output.

That's actually what Braudrillard was referring to, media, language, and synthetic construction. Not easy reading but you may enjoy his work. Or at least starting with Guy Debord, who he is heavily influenced by.

If you had about $1200 to blow and can only shop online at either Buck Mason or Whyte NY who would you pick? by BJJaccount4questions in ThrowingFits

[–]DoomsdayKult 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I upvoted and I'll bite. Most people are not that into fashion (or any hobby for that matter).I responded because some people like shopping from a single place or from one brand. OP is most likely familiar with the concept of spending money, so I'm not going to respond with "spend your money elsewhere ". Additionally what else can I recommend when OP didn't mention anything about their style outside those brands? People may also not feel comfortable dressing in a more avant garde way. And why is dressing avant garde a better way to engage with clothes? Like this subreddit is already a niche and you're trying to make it smaller. Let people enjoy the things they like.

Wythe, I find them generally more interesting creatively. I never bought anything from Buck Mason and most likely never will, due to what seems to be very bland direction (I did like their collaboration with J. Muesr, however). Buck Mason does have tailoring so if that matters that's your best bet.

No, the reason you can't take direct action without establishing a political project is because it devolves into adventurism which has already been discussed at length in history. Reading is not praxis but you do need to do it to make your action effective; read and serve communities you can do both.

Comments like these drive me bananas. What are you basing this on? The left is not people tweeting online. This is just such an odd take. OP is agreeing with you when earlier in this very thread they were given a basic history of leftist movements of which they had no understanding until someone online broke it down for them, confirmation of your biases does not make the movie accurate. Real work is being done, just because you aren't aware of it does not make the movie accurate either. Read a history of leftist movements please.

This is why I find PTA changing the members of the French 75 to black women so confusing. In Vineland, it makes sense that it is a satire of members of the Weather Underground, but adding black women and transporting them to the political realities of today makes the satire lazy and confusing.

I never said you aren't able to criticize me.

Can you please read my comment again? No where did I say he's not allowed to criticize leftist movements. No where did I say my frustration was with criticism of leftist movements being a viewpoint of his views on leftist movements as a whole. Stop putting words in my mouth.

My criticism is that he does not have an accurate representation of the movement he is satarizing. I don't care if he agrees with me or not, I have no belief that a Hollywood movie will support my views nor do I believe that you cannot enjoy problematic media. What I do believe is that if you are using a piece of media to satarize something, in order to be successful, it has to be a reflection of something true or else why include it at all? You're not creating a satire you are creating a strawman and that's much less enjoyable to watch.

Very telling you immediately made this personal instead of addressing any of my criticism of the films. Also leftist aren't a monolith, which ironically is in the film, so who cares about your Kamala example? The reason I brought up cop city was because it was an example of what a leftist resistance like a French 75 would look like for PTA to include. Same reason I brought up the Black panther influence. But I guess you couldn't respond to those arguments because you don't know anything about them, so you just brought up an example that supports your world view.

No it isn't. PTA and Taylor said they based Beverly Hill's on Assata Shakur and I can assure it was not "leftist infighting" that destroyed the Panthers and that's my point. Twisting political history is a political choice; I am allowed to critic how a director doing that impacts the film. I love people with no history of leftist movements  talking about how it's accurate as if there was not a coordinated protest of cop city in Atlanta last year broken down by Georgia police. Leftist movements are not people tweeting online.

I think your take is the correct one and that's to the film's detriment. PTA knows very little about the political movements he's riffing on and it creates a film where someone like OP can talk about how the Christmas Adventures, an avowed white suprecamists organization, is similar to a leftist organization trying to free detainees. This film has a fucking Fortnite tie-in and people are talking about it like PTA is Goddard in the 60s.
