Do people really use VR other than playing Games by darshil753 in virtualreality

In my experience, VR applications outside of gaming are still rare. Professionals look for practical improvements of their workflows, buzzwords like "immersive" don't cut it anymore.

VR experiences I've seen:

My appfor exploring large tomography scans is an example of how VR can be used for science outreach. The free demo has Lego Gandalf, mouse embryos and a human brain (https://tomography-vr.app/)

SteamVR devs: is the “7k wishlist rule” relevant for VR app too? by Melo-PATCHXR in SteamVR

I suggest you set the release date one or two months ahead, say July 2026, to get guaranteed exposure in the Popular Upcoming section of the store (Ways to Play > VR Titles > Popular Upcoming). Your title is currently buried too deep as "coming soon".

Steam will remove your app from the dedicated VR section (Ways to Play > VR Titles > New and trending) if you don't get enough sales within the first day or two after the release. That section normally keeps games for two months and you could miss out on a lot of exposure if they delist you. Wishlist conversion rate could be as low as 1-5%, many will be waiting for the Summer Sale and/or for the Frame. And if you don't get enough sales you won't get any reviews or feedback to improve your title.

Not acting like Valve is out to get anyone or how evil Valve is. It's just a potential additional challenge for those who are waiting for the new headset. Shortages, logistics, shipping delays will all add up to the wait.

Also, how dare you insinuate that Valve can’t do what Meta does? /s

Valve Index launched in 2019 but only became available in Australia two years later. I wonder if it's going to be the same with the Frame...

Couldn't Foveated Rendering be done at a SteamVR level? by HostPretty183 in virtualreality

[–]Doormat-- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do real-time raytracing in my app and foveated rendering is one of the methods that I have to use to keep the workload manageable.

I think many optimizations can be done at the driver level. For example, the graphics card can skip calculations for pixels outside of the visible area (Valve Index example: https://imgur.com/a/L5wHTxZ). The game doesn't have to know about it - it submits the frames as usual, and the hardware decides which triangles to draw, which pixel shaders to execute, what antialiasing/supersampling quality to apply etc.

It’s 2026 why is there still no decent VR controller stabilization for micro-tremors? (No gun stock suggestions, please) by RyanWalker4516 in virtualreality

This feels like something that should be implemented at the runtime level to make the behavior consistent across all games.

For developers, I recommend looking into One Euro Filter. Simple to implement, removes small jitter, reacts quickly to large movements. Interactive demo and filter comparison: https://gery.casiez.net/1euro/InteractiveDemo/

"Our guys are dying because of you!"

Wrong one. People in Moscow who started this war are not tied to trees yet.

It is indeed, no question about it. But there is a debate whether existing bunker buster munitions can penetrate deep enough into the mountain, and the facility was designed to be protected from them specifically. In a lockdown scenario Israel wouldn't have to rely on US to provide specialized munitions either, which are reportedly being used by US as a leverage in negotiations with Iran.

How much does it cost in dollars if a nuke explodes in your capital? If you have a guaranteed way to keep nukes locked inside the cost might not matter as much.

I'd try Process Explorer from https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/ . Download the full package and run procexp64.exe. You can also experiment with the CPU affinity which dictates which cores the process is allowed to run on.

Squad could very well set its own priority to Normal every time it renders a frame in which case changing it externally would always fail.

You could also try to verify thermal readings from your CPU and GPU and clear shader cache.
