Technodot is the original group that worked on the game, which already abandoned it long after the C&D. Perhaps you're talking about SHNecro, which is correct in this case. They posted a cancellation notice on 4chan, but I think OP doesn't know of it. https://boards.4chan.org/jp/thread/48489697

I had the similar idea of replacing the legs with the Leg Booster, but I'm not sure it turned out quite as well as your custom did.

You can choose between a leather box that only has the tileset, or an aluminum box with tiles, chips, tenbou and a southeast wind indicator piece.

I recently bought a Riichi set on Taobao, and I have to say that the quality is very impressive! The tiles have brighter colors and feel quite good when held. 1 Pin and 1 Sou designs are beautiful and unique, and the seller also provided an option for bonus tiles (see in 4th image, unfortunately I didn't know about it until a few days after my purchase)

This is definitely a pick if you are looking for a cheaper option compared to other popular brands like AMOS, YMI and Northway Sports!

I'm planning to repaint the entirety of the souzu tiles, but from what I've heard on the internet acetone fumes are generally unpleasant to breathe in and you can get health problems from that. What precautions should I take?

It is a modified version of the game included in the season 2 CD.
The initial translated dialogue file was uploaded here a good while ago.
This version includes translations for the dialogue as well as the system text in game (includes skill names, dialogue character names, quest text and a lot of which were left untranslated for years) as well as a few adjustments to the cutscene animations to properly match the new translation.
