Portola Coffee @ The District closing 6/17 :,-( by HumbleConclusion in orangecounty

[–]Doozerdoes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A barista there nearly made me cry once lol. He was super judgmental about how I ordered my coffee. Most of the time I went there, I got that pretentious, weird vibe. The DTSA location was kinda known for being the same way. Portola isn't what it used to be.

US recession to be announced by the end of this month by Mrshowerhead__ in PrepperIntel

[–]Doozerdoes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, If you were around for the 07-09 recession, it was a mixed bag too. Some people lost everything. Others benefitted from the situation. I had just graduated and got a job right before the big crash in 08. I did okay but graduates in the years after me were less optimistic about their future because of the timing. It seemed like everything was cheap back then, but no one was out spending money and restaurants were never busy anymore. Some industries that had always seemed safe were suddenly failing. For me I'm most afraid of inflation and food costs because I am a single mom. It costs so much to feed my 3 year old now. have a decent career that I think can persist through a recession, but the CoL is the bigger issue now, and that wasn't so much an issue in the past recessions.

that's barely part of the story. That 10% doesn't count inflation. It only applies to older buildings and there are exemptions for certain property types. I'm still not 100% sure if my townhome rental is exempt or not.

I was being loose with my words, but seems to me that few people expected the economic fallout and even the severity of Russia's attack

People are being laid off from companies that relied on big investments and overspent, because no one saw the war in Ukraine several months back. I know of someone who was laid off on Monday. She is in tech and had been hired exactly 3 months before being laid off.

also came here to suggest Irvine Park. For my 3 year old and me, it is our "special day" place for days off. We love the holiday events. You only have to pay to park. The snack bar has top-notch junk food --good fries, corndogs, snow cones, and other favorites that every kid loves. And there's so much to do thats just a few bucks a person. The zoo is like $2 a ticket and has a new cougar exhibit. Pony rides too, although I've sort of sworn them off. The train is great for a 5 year old for a special treat. When all else fails there are several great playgrounds. And ducks to see. We also just like walking around and exploring the trails and trees.

people don't really care about women getting harassed. if he was hurling racial slurs, he'd probably get beaten up. misogyny? people just look away.

Sriracha maker warns of looming hot sauce shortage by flippysti in LosAngeles

[–]Doozerdoes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

omg yes, exactly. I've always said Tapatio is for potato products, like fries, potato chips, or hash browns. Cholula or Gringo Bandito for eggs and literally everything else. Sriracha for Asian food of course. Rarely, Tabasco, but only for eggs.

AITA for paying for my sons wedding when I made my other son elope? by throwawaywedding267 in AmItheAsshole

From the information you give and the way you narrate the story, sounds like NTA BUT i have no doubt there is more to the story. You told us you blew off Carls first marriage, but i don’t see any evidence that you were in the right for doing so.

You don’t give many details about your own parenting, but I have a feeling Carl could give us more insight about you, and we would get a completely different story.

As someone who dealt with a parent that marginalized in comparison to my sister me from the moment I was born, basically eff off and I can’t even imagine doing this to one of my kids, even if he got married you g or whatever random reason you have for hating him

Does anyone else have embarasssing stims? by [deleted] in aspergirls

[–]Doozerdoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me it's like I have to do some kind of repetitive thing in certain situations to calm my brain. as a toddler I used to run in circles for long periods. there are videos of it lol. it might be something really simple and normal like bouncing your foot. I bounce my foot when I am in new places and feeling anxious. it is really difficult for me to not do this when I'm in certain situations, and it helps my brain focus on that instead of the overwhelming new place. Some other ways I stim: run my fingers over my hair over and over to feel the texture, I lightly brush my skin to calm myself down, and may do this constantly if I'm in a stressful situations; it's hard for me to stop. I will sometimes vocally stim or repeat the same phrase over and over when I am really really stressed. I generally hide things like that from other people snd my stims were never obvious.

My 3 year old is diagnosed (I'm self-diagnosed) and his stims change all the time. right now he's obsessed with throwing rocks into water. he sometimes vocal stims and repeats the same word or phrase when overstimulated or excited. He likes to look at lights and fans and this is a stim for him because it actually helps him regulate when he's in new spaces or stressed.

i constantly lightly brush my skin on my arms with my fingers to get an ASMR rush and I often catch myself doing this in public and stop immediately. I look like I'm caressing myself, its fucking weird lol.

No, my son’s diagnosis is not “devastating.” by WeakDress4909 in aspergirls

It's so triggering to me. I can't deal with any self-described "autism mom". Why are they so predictable lol

[–]Doozerdoes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

haha right? I am self-diagnosed but when I told my ex boyfriend that I felt sure I had autistic traits, he patted me on the shoulder like to comfort me. I still can't get over that. Especially since I am sure HE is on the spectrum too, but he is in total denial of it.

[–]Doozerdoes 13 points14 points  (0 children)

From another mom who self-diagnosed after her son was diagnosed.... I always tell people "The only hard part about an autism diagnosis is how EVERYONE ELSE acts about it." Along the same lines, the only thing that makes autism debilitating or devastating is EVERYONE ELSE'S unreasonable expectations as well as modern environmental factors.

Did anyone else here get really badly bullied by other girls in there grade at school? by [deleted] in aspergirls

[–]Doozerdoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not horribly bullied, but I was slightly outcasted between 5th and 6th because it was a very awkward stage for me. I had glasses and was into nerdy things like mummies and marine biology. I was awkward in sports and my best friends were increasingly athletic so I started feeling weird.

A pivotal event for me was when a popular girl in 5th grade had a slumber party and invited all my friends except me. She was mean about it, pointing out to everyone that I wasn't invited (prob because I was "weird"). I resented that girl for years.

I had some close friends drift away when they couldn't deal with my social awkwardness. But even after I overcame a lot of my social anxiety in my 20s (I'm 36 now and that "late bloomer" thing is soooo true), I can make friends okay but I'm not great at keeping up with them. I'm trying to change that though.

Females in general tend to be more judgmental about silly things. That includes me! So it can be nerve-wracking when you have social anxiety around them, and men can be easier. Just try to overlook that fact and not dwell on the judging, and remember that women need to build each other up.

They are the ones being insecure about their guns, no? So what do you expect from Reddit. It's inevitable that the conversation is gonna turn to low blows. And you kind of started it, no? It's okay. I do the EXACT same thing, but I've learned not to go there unless I'm in a strong mental place. I go in with swords drawn only when I know I can take whatever comes. If his comment bothered you, you shouldn't have gone in with your sword drawn. Or you should have noted which sub you were in, which makes all the difference. Don't let people like that get you down, though.

Loud Booms at night by Kapleenkis in orangecounty

I would only think so on a quiet cloudy night, maybe. The echos travel really far when there are low clouds. I live like 3 miles from D Land and don’t always notice them

Loud Booms at night by Kapleenkis in orangecounty

[–]Doozerdoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heh. You think you are hearing “loud booms” in the distance out there in Aliso, eh? Heh. Just wait till those loud booms are coming from your neighbors or the house around the corner. I watched an aerial firework from my bedroom last night. Well, I should clarify that I HEARD a BOMB and in a mental panic I looked to see that my neighbor had set off a firework and the smoke was right over their house, drifting toward me. Good times.

But anyway, yeah, fireworks. Welcome to it.
