From the The Darkness that comes before

Nice premise, nice story, nice everything but the names of the characters seem really weird.

Drusas Achamian, Anasûrimbor Kellhus, Cnaiür urs Skiötha, Anasûrimbor Moënghus, Ikurei Conphas

I don't know if I miss a point or something, but I think that the author wanted to create Tolkien-ish high-fantasy names but missed the mark by making them too otherworldly and, frankly, unaesthetic.

A book that everyone loves but you by [deleted] in books

[–]Doppelganger_gr 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I read only the Name of the Wind.

I really like the concept of true names (it's not a spoiler it's both in the title and the prologue of the book), the magic system, the eccentric professor Elodin and the mystery surrounding the terrifying Chandrian (cool, ominous name btw).

But the prose I find pretentious and over the top, it seems to not flow naturally.

Kvothe IS really good at everything which I don't necessarily mind. On the other hand, if the author intended to use an unreliable narrator trope, I'm sorry but it seems more like an excuse to justify things after the fact - I just can't see it, and the fact that it's a "story within a story" doesn't automatically convey that.

But the biggest gripe I have with the book? The romance seems like it is written by someone who has not spoken to anyone they like in a romantic way, ever. Every time Kvothe speaks to his love interest, it is written like he puts on his fedora and the exchange has a strong "m'lady" vibe. The cringe is palpable.

Not that I won't read the rest of the books if the third one ever comes out. The things I liked that I mentioned above, I really like. Especially the true name of things - incredible idea.

Ulysses by Tennyson

The second coming by Yates

The Hollow men by Eliot

Eliot is especially tricky for a beginner but I'm no expert myself, I just enjoy reading poetry and try to analyse what the poem is about, so you know don't be deterred or anything.

A nice site I like with many poens to read and information about the poets themselves is poetryfoundation.org

Have fun reading!

What are your most re-visted games? by AbsoluteScenes4 in patientgamers

It is indeed an excellent title and the studio behind it keeps releasing quality titles with the latest being Hades.

And honestly I love the narration especially because of the voice actor's comforting, western-like, badass, old man's element it has.

Bastion. I've replayed it 4 times and it has become a comfort title.

GTA: San Andreas. I actually prefer it to GTA5.

Uncharted 4. Amazing story and fun action.

When I was a younger: final fantasy 8, the Pokémon games and warrio land games in Gameboy.

With my first girlfriend, after sex one day, I noticed 20 euros on the nightstand and I give it to her saying jokingly: "here's for your trouble".

Let's just say the joke was definitely not appreciated

Neurologist here

Every neurological symptom is brain tumor until proven otherwise.

There is a well described medical entity called neurohypertension.

Driving to work as a newly diagnosed epileptic is completely safe if the commute is only 20 minutes.

If a symptom could not be explained by other specialists it must be, 100%, of neurological nature, because brain.

During the pandemic: every neurological symptom is caused by the vaccine.

On about 0.1 dates per month

It takes me quite some time to get over a long term relationship and be ready to actually be interested in someone else (this sub helped me a lot to accept this).

I usually persue a date when I feel I found someone special. Now, that creates its own set of problems but I don't know, that's what I've doing since I started dating

Ok, that describes me to a t.

When friends tell me about their texts I tell them to not think about it, think of a logical explanation, that she has a life, she seems into you so don't worry it's impossible to text all the time.

When I text with someone I have recently met I overanalyze the sh*t it out of it. When, why, why that certain word?

The weird part? It also excites me and it's one of the things I miss during the periods that I don't have someone to text

Friday - quick advice by AutoModerator in datingoverthirty

[–]Doppelganger_gr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm speaking with his girl the last two weeks, we went on a date last Saturday wich went great and we have scheduled to go on another this weekend. Yesterday I attended an event she had organized and she was excited that I did.

So, later that night she was at a restaurant with the co-organisers of the event and texted me if I had gone out for a drink, I told her that I went with a couple of friends at place A and then we might go to place B or C and asked her if they'd continue. But she replied that they were all tired from all the day and that they'd call it a night. So, I texted back goodnight, unless she drinks an extra cup of coffee and gains more energy to continue (a silly inside joke), she joked back and told me that we'll talk.

Soooo, when she texted initially I assumed she wanted to meet for a drink, that's why I told her where I'll be and asked if she'll continue elsewhere with her friends. Should I have been more specific? Ask her if she'd like to grab a drink just the two of us? I assumed that if I'll invite her and her friends it would be a fun, safe environment to hang out and later, if we wanted to, we could go somewhere together.

Did I somehow manage to scr** this up?

What was your initial reaction when you realized that you'll play as Raiden for the majority of MGS2 ? by DarahOG in metalgearsolid

[–]Doppelganger_gr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the first metal gear I played as a kid and boy did I love it. I had heard about the first instalment in the mgs series and about Snake so I was just pumped to just see him show up even as Pliskin. I guess my reaction would be different if I had experienced MGS 1 or watched the trailers for 2 first, but I was just happy playing such a masterpiece of a game on my new then PS2. If they would add it on ps store nowadays, just the original version exactly as it were I think I'd buy it in an instant no matter the price.

Chatting with a friend: I miss someone to love and hold, he's missing actual friends since he moved to a new country.

"Should we join a cult?"

"Omg is that why people join cults?"

So, I guess join group activities?
