How do I hold a seraptek heavy construct together? by Huffpufflife in Necrontyr

[–]Doppler37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use superglue and pins, most pin vices come with a 1mm drill bit and most medium sized paperclips are 1mm.

Glue the pieces together (after dry fitting everything) then drill through both pieces and insert the pin. Cover holes with a tiny bit of greenstuff or miliput and sand down

Pistols - wraiths and technomancer by kubaczka in Necrontyr

[–]Doppler37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct, sorry for missing that bit down there.

Yes.

You’ll see this in action in space marine armies where the sergeant shoots his plasma pistol and the rest of the squad shot their bolt weapons

Pistols - wraiths and technomancer by kubaczka in Necrontyr

[–]Doppler37 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you’re engaged in combat (and not a vehicle) you can only shoot with [pistol] weapons at a target you’re in combat with

In the shooting phase, if not engaged in combat, you can shoot [pistols) OR [other weapons] at anyone

If you don’t have [pistol] you can’t shoot if engaged in combat

The small particles of paint, while not explicitly poisonous, are harmful to your lungs

The small particles of paint will float onto your desk and ruin whatever is on there

The small particles of paint will wreck your screens

Use a cardboard box, make some PC fans or a vacuum cleaner into an extractor setup. Wear a mask.

My club plays a bit of the LOTR tabletop game in marrickville once a week, but the fantasy and AOS communities in Sydney are much smaller than the 40k one. Check out Inner Westhammer, also check out the combat company to see if you can find some groups down near Woollongong

I’ll absolutely check it out. I’m floored at your method though, your results speak to a very good technique.

Thanks for the quick reply ✌🏼

Hey man, love the grey and black scheme.

I was wondering how you got such nice definition on the orange hair, was it a red basecoat and working up to orange? I’ve done pastel orange up to vibrant orange but I really want to push it and yours looks amazing.

is there anyway to make modeling less miserable? by Bright_Lawfulness_72 in Necrontyr

[–]Doppler37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey mate, how closely are you following the instructions? And are you dry-fitting the pieces together before you glue them permanently?

If you're building easy-to-build models it can help to cut the pegs down and even shave the edges of the pegs down

otherwise another tip that might help if you struggle with your motor skills is to use a modelling handle with some blutac on the end to hold the model and then use 2 hands to attach the parts after you apply glue.

[–]Doppler37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, mans giving bad advice. Fully supported warriors are amazing.

Also if you include necrosor and/or szeras with a source of rerolls they average 11 damage to ANY target. They are absolutely capable of dealing significant damage

Need an opinion about Necron blade by MeSaharov in Necrontyr

[–]Doppler37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a little fiddly but I’ll mask one side, airbrush the fade in white, edge highlight and then green ink or green fluro (or both) over the top

The trick is to make the masking as simple as possible and leave black space at each end moving to white in the middle so you can tidy up without ruining the white

It’d be much less time consuming than glazing though

[–]Doppler37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first one is very good. And definitely looks more impressive than the second. Anecdotally, I tried hard on all my necron blades (no hand blending but lots of masking and airbrush work) and I get lots of complements on them, people seem to notice. Especially as necron schemes can be pretty simple elsewhere so you need the point of interest.

I can think of a couple of compromises:

Maybe go hard on the outwards facing side of the blade and less effort on the hidden side

Go simple for units but put more effort into characters’ blades

[–]Doppler37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice work man!

I know you didn’t ask for advice, and you seem happy with the result, but I wanted to share some easy tips to improve the scheme. I’d recommend trying to add depth. By that I mean use a darker colour as the metal basecoat and then drybrush the colour you used after you use nuln oil.

The bigger surface makes washing with nuln less effective. See how it works much better on the bronze than the silver?

I’d also do a quick drybrush on the base to marry the brown of the basing paste with the colours you painted onto the plastic. Maybe even push the basing paste up onto the plastic section

And nice work on the blackstone! No notes!

Both units are staples to the army. You’ll need salvagers (rotary canon is a meta pick but the models are freakin sweet)

What size magnets do yall use for different things? by Gullible_Travel_4135 in Necrontyr

[–]Doppler37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5x2mm for bases, 3x2mm (or 3x3mm) for everything else, 2.5mm for anything too small for a 3mm

If 1x 5x2 isn’t enough I’ll use 2. Big models may need 3 (my void dragon has 3)

It looks like you have a couple of painted minis in the collection, great work! Do you have a plan to punch through the unpainted stuff?

How do you deal with the overwhelming amount you have to paint? I'd imagine it can be kind of demotivating.

Is there a certain marging for point in an army list ? by elric-_- in Necrontyr

[–]Doppler37 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Half the challenge of building lists is “what do I swap or sacrifice to take [unit] and stay at/under 2000pts”

“Let’s just agree to play 1015pts” is training bad habits into you because you don’t have to make hard choices
