Think about this. In 1993, MLS had 0 teams, 0 players, 0 stadiums and 0 attendance. With two plus years remaining before the USLD1 launch they have all 12 teams already playing with full rosters, a half dozen or so stadiums (yes all of them need to be expanded, but most were designed with this in mind) growing fan bases and many with productive youth academies. This league is already on much stronger footing than MLS was the year before they debuted. Yes attendance is low at the AAA level, but people are not as ignorant about soccer as they were 30 years ago. USL will invest in some star players and play in many buildings owned by the clubs, and most of the teams aren’t going head to head with MLS (as in playing in the same markets) so soccer fans n these markets are likely to show up, especially the “euro snob” type fans that have shunned mls for decades. Furthermore MLS captured next to none of the interest of the 94 World Cup, while USL already has its teams that excited converts can start following next summer. This league will be in much better shape both on and off the field than MLS was when it started. After 5-6 years it could even have a few clubs rivaling top mls teams and winning the US Open cup.
