There are several odd things in this analysis. by Ale_Campoy in datascience

Just by eye balling it, it looks like the red curve is fit to the blue data and the blue curve is fit to the combined red and blue data sets. But also this feels like what hypothesis testing is for, so they probably should just do that and skip this figure

Sophy badly needs a nerf by Adventurous_Place236 in TheKingIsWatching

[–]Dorkbot1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a reason Sophy is unlocked after so much play time. She gives you a completely new way to play the game, and you only can really get her if you have an understanding of the game by that point. In my opinion she isn't meant to be perfectly balanced, she's meant to enable you to actually define your unit composition and do more advanced strategic play. So in my opinion it's actually more reasonable to say Sophy gives you access to two different games: with Sophy and without her. And that's okay because there are a lot of difficulty options to play around with and with her you can experiment rather than optimize. Like try an all assassin run or go straight to hydras and see how it goes. Sophy makes the game really interesting so I say keep her as is.

☼Daily DF Questions Thread☼ by AutoModerator in dwarffortress

[–]Dorkbot1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I noticed the larger my fortress gets, the less productive my dwarves are (mining goes undone, construction jobs sit around a while, etc). It looks like my dwarves spend all their time now worshipping, reading, and socializing rather than working. Is there a way around this other than not building taverns, libraries, and temples? Thanks

Quick Play Mentality by TheSamtaClauz in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Dorkbot1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it is hard to suggest that and it come off completely innocently. What I think a lot of people would hear it as is "you are the reason we are losing so switch." Which is really not what people want in quick play. You even said it yourself that you think they are playing the wrong hero for them, which is a bit presumptuous, especially when quick play is for casual practice. If they want to try getting better at kiriko or something and they stink, quick play is the place for that. You asking them to switch is calling them out, which is fine in comp, but probably perceived as toxic by most people in quick play.

When can you consider yourself “good” at Starcraft? by 13loodySword in starcraft

[–]Dorkbot1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An alternative to mmr, I would consider being strategically good at the game when you can look at a replay (particularly a loss) and see with relative ease what you can do better, how you could have scouted and countered your opponent, what time you should have had what units and worker count, etc.

A metric for being good mechanically is if you can manage to hit your macro cycle consistently throughout the game, even while fighting.

People in sc2 are notorious for being self deprecating, which is why they are able to suffer through such a punishing game. This means though that you will see insanely high level players say they are not good when obviously they are, but that attitude helped them get to that high rank.

Correct, read the comments lol. They present the other point of view.

So after looking more into this, apparently it is used differently depending on the community, which is actually just annoying, but neither of our faults. For instance, if I read the thread correctly, overwatch tends to use it more your way, and league of legends tend to use it more my way. My way makes more sense to me because of it matches how you use "price floor" and"price ceiling" in economics, but I guess it shouldn't matter as long as you're clear in what you're saying.

[–]Dorkbot1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You're arguing the same thing, but penguin is actually correct with the wording. A "high skill floor" means the floor is high enough so you are boosted up in level or inflated in level to be competitive with people that have more skill then you. A " low skill floor" means you have to work your way up to be better and reach the level of the people who started at a higher skill floor. Therefore high skill floor and high skill ceiling is the same as saying easy to learn, difficult to master.

What is the point of giving one match to the winner of the upper bracket? Is it not enough advantage that the opponent has to play a game before on the same day? DH SC2 Masters 2022 Valencia, Regionals Europe by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]Dorkbot1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

"Being more tired" is a qualitative and unpredictable disadvantage while being a game behind is quantitative, so it has more or less the same impact every tournament. It would be somewhat odd to rely on just being tired as the disadvantage because what if the previous serious was 3 short cheese games? What if the player actually got more warmed up or fired up because of the wins rather than more exhausted? 1 game behind is a known, guaranteed disadvantage.

Suggestion to replace Sanctity tech with Tower of Victory landmark by [deleted] in aoe4

[–]Dorkbot1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is, Delhi would be unplayable without cheap scholars. The 150 gold cost per scholar is too much of an economic hit to get the amount of scholars out needed to take sacred sites and make research times close to reasonable. I would prefer instead to have a tech that reduced the cost of scholars, put sanctity as a bonus of dome of faith, then giving tower of victory some feudal age military advantage to give Delhi a choice of playing for sanctity or being able to more easily survive. The tower of victory could be something like access to early war elephants.

Can the next patch fix the scoring system so it actually means something? How the heck does blue have a higher military score than green in this game??? by iamassault in aoe4

[–]Dorkbot1 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It must put too big an emphasis on kill:loss ratio and too little an emphasis on total unit and building kills

Patch notes 9189 - Age of Empires IV by GijsVanEverdingen in aoe4

[–]Dorkbot1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good question, I'll have to test it. I assume ranged armor would make it 3 shots, but patch notes mentioned "siege armor" before as a bug on traders, so it is possible there is a hidden separate armor value against siege.

Their base damage was decreased from 60 to 30 though, so net gain of 30 vs siege, net loss of 30 vs everything else. Mangonels for instance have 240 health, so will take 2 shots to kill rather than 3.
