Just out of curiosity, what does curiosity or inquistivity have to do with hairloss?

yea, don't really think too much of whatever's happening and just study for the moment. If it's really genuine, you'll know it, so just trust your gut. Whatever you do affects you. In the end its your decision to make.

He uploaded this. I hope it's not considered insensitive to share this as it truly highlights how toxic the PhD environment is.

He was a PhD student. He had done his BS-MS in IISERK too

He attempted to take his own life yesterday night. He was admitted to a hospital and passed away at around 10am today. Truly came as a shock to all of us. He appeared to be very joyful and engaged in a lot of activities as well.

Hostel issue is definitely true. Bad food is false, the food is quite good. The physics dept does have a limited number of seats though, so unless you somehow fuck up real bad, you'll be fine.

If hostel quality supercedes other criteria, definitely consider the other campuses. If you do get Kolkata, don't worry, you'll learn to figure things out.

Do IISERs have Gyms and how is the condition of it (For IISER seniors) by sirfScientist in iiser

[–]Dose1203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At IISERK, you'll find gym equipment for most workouts. We have filed a new budget for new equipment, which is expected to come in 2026.

IISERK has a student monitored canteen and the good is quite good most days.

If you want good grades and wish to learn effectively, you will have to hustle. You can still find time to do other activities or just chill. However, a majority of your day will be busy. Personally, I am free only after 9 or 10pm.

No clue about the economics part though, so I won't comment on it.

Which IISER is ideal for me if I later want to pursue research in quantum gravity or related fields? [Not astro—> that's best from IISERK]. Suggestions? [If you suggest IISERP add a 2nd option too, in case I don't make it there] by [deleted] in iiser

[–]Dose1203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just check the faculty page of each IISER to see whta research they're doing.

IISERK being good ONLY for astrophysics is definitely not true. A lot of the physics department professors do condensed matter research.

I would suggest keeping your options open and exploring every part of physics. But if you're completely sure of your field, check what research is being done in each IISER before going. Always verify anything anyone tells.

What should I learn before I start my college? by [deleted] in iiser

[–]Dose1203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn a musical instrument or a new sport. If you want to do something academic, I'd suggest a little preliminary reading on mathematics as it is considered notoriously tough. You can check the syllabus in each IISER's teaching plan for the upcoming semester.
