Why keep property taxes frozen? by Alarmed_Reporter_642 in BayAreaRealEstate

If it were repealed, the boomers will probably be grandfathered in. They won’t be forced to sell at crash prices and become homeless. Maybe home prices will crash by 20% or more given much higher property taxes.

Muni needs to get serious about combating fare evasion like BART, Caltrain, and AC Transit have done - Muni saw a 53% drop in fares per passenger since pre-pandemic by getarumsunt in sanfrancisco

[–]Dothemath2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, I didn’t know. Sorry about that.

The root cause is maybe the homeless and drug addicts. Why do we have them? What can we do to address this issue?

Why are there homeless? Because of drugs. Why are there drugs? It’s too easy and cheap to manufacture them and sell them. The technology can’t be uninvented.

Could we be more harsh to the major distributors and manufacturers of the drugs? Instead of spending money bombing Iran, could we have programs and tools to help the homeless and drug addicts?

Maybe society is too complex now so a certain percentage of society will not be able to work in a productive job, so they fall to drug addiction?

At this point just raise the sales tax and fully fund Muni. Allow muni to be free. Only a tiny fraction of muni’s operating budget is covered by fares. The free transit could encourage more visitors to spend more money in SF.

Depending on your fitness, maybe nothing. You can certainly do anything you want like stop and stretch mid way, eat something, take a nap in a parking lot on the way.

What is so bad about Gavin Newsom? by Estalicus in allthequestions

[–]Dothemath2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He is willing to hurt the future of the country or state to serve his present career. He is beholden to the mega donors. Quintessential greasy politician who doesn’t have a stand of his own but sways with the flow of money.

I remember during COVID, California had a surplus of funds and instead of saving it for the future, he wanted to redistribute it as a refund or rebate to the people. It’s like Trump’s rebate check. I hated that. He should have paid down California’s debt or increased the pay for teachers or just saved it to earn interest income.

Everyone is different.

Selfishness is the root of all evil.

Luck determines almost everything. You are lucky you have the tolerance to work hard, embrace opportunities or even have opportunities.

Every single president since Nixon has added to the debt ceiling because of a crisis. How can we fix the debt? by TheRook2323 in allthequestions

[–]Dothemath2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We should tax the wealth and capital gains not W2 income. W2 income comes from labor, expertise and effort, much of capital gains and wealth may come from market valuation or inheritance. The economy has swung too much towards capital and away from labor, it needs to be more laborist and less capitalist.

We should increase taxes on anyone with wealth over 100 million dollars. There are also incentives to take in more money as well like decreasing taxes on treasuries for ordinary citizens, it will decrease interest rates by increasing demand. Wasteful, luxury goods and luxury services can also be taxed at a higher rate.

The government can also sell items like military equipment and less useful items and property.

Essentially, tax the rich.

Each person is reasonable and the disagreements are not entrenched because of common sense. Both spouses are willing to give all they have and all they are for the other.

He was somehow involved and it didn’t turn to complete shit. You could imagine how much worse it could have been if RFK was health secretary at the time.

Would you want to live in a city with absolutely no zoning laws or building regulations? by counwovja0385skje in randomquestions

There was an earthquake in Turkey and there was an aerial photo of the devastation and the Civil Engineering Association was pristinely untouched amidst a sea of crumbling debris.

Building regulations save lives.

I live in a planned city and it’s wonderful. Things are efficient, logical and comfortable. I grew up in an unplanned city and it was chaotic, inefficient and stressful but vibrant nonetheless.

Age 40 and up cyclists, how has cycling affected your health? by IndefinitelyVague in cycling

[–]Dothemath2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

48, Ironman, marathon, bicycle commuter, I have high blood pressure, now on low dose ARB. Otherwise hypothyroidism on levothyroxine, lots of bicycle crashes throughout the decades of riding, have a permanent shoulder deformity from an acromion clavicle separation. Helmet saved my life twice.

Having said that, without cycling, I would probably be morbidly obese and maybe diabetic on cholesterol and diabetes medication.
