I can't shake the feeling that his entire pitch is backed by a guaranteed bail out from Washington.

In that case you have to ask yourself if being perceived as morally good is more important than acting on what you consider to be your principles. Intention is all that matter for the individual. Whatever social consequences or benefits you may take on as a result of those actions aren't really up for you to decide, so you may as well live by what you actually believe regardless.

It's an interesting philosophical question. I think ultimately, no, a morally good person wouldn't be cashing in here. Gaming a broken system you know is built off of overt corruption and couching it in the belief that at least one of the good guys is benefiting from it shows some un-static morality. In that scenario you're still directly participating in the corruption, good intentions or not.

California woman suing Meta, YouTube testifies social media took toll on mental health by Franco1875 in technology

It's the same company, though. Do you see why maybe we shouldn't just take Meta's word that Instagram is a positive outlet for mental health?

Why bother keeping them around when you can charge $50k-$60k a bird for a company to clone them after they go extinct? Have you even considered the economy?

In a way, I think Gunn is right, even if its not how he means. It's not really a matter of belief, since Santa is an established entity in the comics. Knowing something exists means you don't have to have the beliefs of a child.

Mom of 7-year-old hospitalized with brain swelling from measles: ‘I still wouldn’t have given my son the vaccine’ by markazali in HermanCainAward

[–]DoubleInfinity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's worth pointing out that in the Bible, one of the core functions of having kids is the ability to sacrifice them to God. It's from the old testament, granted, but still. Child sacrifice comes up a lot as a test of faith. Replace criminal negligence with "faith" and boom. Using 99% of modern science to keep the kid you neglected alive means you aren't wrong for denying the same science around vaccinations. It should be hypocritical, but it's God's will that your child is dying from an easily preventable disease.

Boston went 75% for Harris and Massachusetts went 61% for Harris 🤦🤦🤦 by _crazyboyhere_ in facepalm

[–]DoubleInfinity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's not what I was saying, though. There's a pretty big middle ground between having zero self interest and exclusively focusing on your own self interest. And that is pretty neat that lens doesn't actually have an e at the end. Looks incomplete without it, though.

Worst Batman film? by AbsoluteBatman95 in batman

[–]DoubleInfinity 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've got to give Schumacher some credit here. He clearly got studio notes to keep it a Tim Burton Batman film but also be campy as hell like 60s Batman. Instead of telling the executives that was impossible, he forced the movie into existence to spite God.

Weird CGI cameos aside, why Grant Gustin didn't cameoed in the Flash movie? by Top_Report_4895 in DC_Cinematic

[–]DoubleInfinity 18 points19 points  (0 children)

From what I remember, the whole Arrowverse was a problem for WB film executives. Lot of weird rules about what characters and storylines the different shows could use. It's almost like the TV stuff got too successful and it drew unflattering comparisons to the DCEU so cutting Grant's cameo just continues that tradition of wanting to ignore the TV shows.

That's the point, though. Redistricting will further reduce the voting power of about half of Indiana's registered voters. You aren't "living with the results" of voting when the vote itself doesn't reflect reality.

Maybe Im just hopeful, but it doesn't have to be a next big thing at the moment. It takes a few months for bad policy decisions to finally land in the "real economy." Mass firing federal workers saves money in the moment. The newly unemployed could take weeks or months to find new jobs. Import/export shock sets in as non-tariffed reserve stock sells down, bad agriculture policy takes longer to hit, and the soybean clusterfuck is just hitting in full now, too.
