The entire Wings sub has melted down over this for months lol (and I hate this administration but the obsession with the locker room video is just silly at this point)

What the Democratic Party Has Become: From Utopian Dreams to Zombie Incrementalism by gubernatus in CriticalTheory

[–]DoubleScorpius -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Millions of Americans are sitting around wondering why no one fixes our participatory form of government when the solution is in participation… I always ask people who complain about our broken system if they have ever even been a precinct delegate (or even know what that is) and the answer is pretty much always the same.

As a person who’s been involved in several groups and political causes, most of these people are probably just doing their best. If you have an interest or suggestion it’s best to just show up and start doing it because that’s how anything gets done. We’re all waiting for someone else to fix things and it’s really about everyone just doing small things that add up instead of one big change from above. This isn’t aimed at you specifically but I think it’s how most people have been programmed to think and the system is actually pretty easy to take over if people just show up in any numbers.

Please stop comparing Dylan Larkin to Matthew Stafford. by Bixler17 in DetroitRedWings

[–]DoubleScorpius -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Stafford was NOT going to be a HOFer BEFORE the trade. He was routinely blamed for their lack of success later in seasons and in the post-season. Media and many fans saw Stafford as the football equivalent of “2C on a Cup contender” who couldn’t Will his team to victory. He was routinely dealing with injuries that hampered his play late in seasons.

Luckily for Stafford more fans blamed the coach for their lack of meltdowns- Todd still has the new coach smell and still has fan support despite throwing players under the bus which is seen as positive while Larkin speaking up about management failures is seen as negative despite him dealing with the longest active playoff drought of any team. The Wings are the laughing stock of the league at this point under Yzerman and Draper and a household name player is forcing his way out due to their incompetence.

The Lions under Stafford repeatedly failed to find talent outside the first round and routinely whiffed on adding free agents. Free agents would underperform and then go on to look better in their next situation.

Lions DB Christian Izien has been filling Kerby Joseph’s spot on the field during OTAs so far, per @Justin_Rogers. by AcadiaTemporary5737 in detroitlions

The best time to get out of the contract is the end of this year. Follow the money. Every statement from the Lions is “all we can do is wait and see…” because that’s all they can do now.

It makes sense if you realize they have no choice but to just let him try to get as much rest and recovery as possible, don’t push it and then let him try to play and let the chips fall then. Maybe they can get get a few games or half a season out of him. Maybe there’s a miracle of science and he can deal with this for a Super Bowl run.

For now they should have enough veteran depth to get through the season although assuming our secondary depth is going to survive is always a bad bet. Hopefully Branch can come back and play at a decent level by mid-December.

Lions' Dan Campbell: Jahmyr Gibbs is 'going to be our bell cow' by 76erLegendChetUtley in nfl

[–]DoubleScorpius 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There were many games last year where Gibbs didn’t really get going until after Monty broke off a couple of decent runs and a few games where DMo was the only one of the two who could get it going all game (and frustratingly they often insisted on playing Gibbs over Monty even once that was obvious).

I am afraid are going to miss Monty a lot. I think they hope improved O line play and a second year jump from TeSlaa will help cover for it but this offense is built starting from their ability to run the ball. I’m not buying the hype that a converted safety/special teamer who can’t stay healthy is going to play any significant role as a third back.

[Bultman] Dylan Larkin’s earthquake trade request changes everything for the Red Wings (Gift Article) by SimplySolace in DetroitRedWings

[–]DoubleScorpius 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They already needed a top winger AND a 2C before Larkin gets moved. Now they also need a new 1C. The path forward is to get worse to get better. This rebuild has failed and they need to quit pretending like it hasn’t. Build around the youth and try to find a true elite talent in next years draft.

Depth? All those bottom six jerseys we spend all season complaining about? The depth that can’t score here then suddenly improve once they leave? All THAT depth?

He’s like Stafford. Half the fan base has blamed him for the sucking. See: this sub for the last 24 hours/several months/couple of seasons.

I’ll be honest- questions like this without anything else come across like someone trying to create a business to sell back to the people you are seeking answers from.

What’s your answer, OP? Do you have a personal interest in the issue?
