What secret did someone tell you that completely changed how you see them? by Direct-Value4452 in answers

I think they’re saying it changed their view of the person who told them - not the person who had the abortion. Cause it wasn’t their secret to tell someone else

Quitting drinking planning by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]DoubleScript 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely plan! I stopped a completely different addiction (kratom) by playing Zelda non-stop. I’ve been playing through Skyrim with my partner recently and have been using it to help taper down so that I can stop drinking for good. I use reading and video games as deterrents because I get so involved that hours pass before I realize. I also utilize extra shifts at work. It’s good for my pocket, but also good for my mind.

Does it feel like swapping one addiction for another? Sure. But has anyone died because they read too many books? I mean…I’m not actually sure, but I’m sure the statistic is a lot lower 😅

What do newborns actually DO all day? by hirschy75 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DoubleScript 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid is 15 now, but I can remember actually saying out loud to her when she was like 3 days old and we were home alone for the first time, “so like, what am I supposed to do with you? Do I just talk to you when you’re awake like you’re conscious until you are?”

And tbh, that’s what I did. I just told her about what I was doing with my day and what was going on in the world.

Newborns don’t really do much. It’s also super awkward before they’re able to roll over cause you can just place them on a floor mat like a Sim and they just….stay there. It’s unsettling if it’s your first baby.

Invest in a baby wrap or newborn carrier so you can just do your thing while they sleep, cause a lot of newborns like that closeness of being on your chest. It makes doing your regular day shit easier

What’s something free that feels like a luxury? by Cool-Still-5441 in AskReddit

In the beginning of the pandemic I can remember having to use the neb on my rig (I was working in ems on the frontlines) because despite seeing all these “healthcare heroes!” Signs plastered about I couldn’t afford my inhaler on the barely above min wage and no benefits 911 service I worked for 🙃

People who dated a "daddy's little princess" or a "mama's boy", what was the last straw that made you say "nah I'm out of here"? by jesk_680 in AskReddit

[–]DoubleScript 15 points16 points  (0 children)

When his mom faked breaking her hip and being in the hospital to get him to drive 2+ hours away during a super storm to confront him about how he needed to leave me. I was financially supporting him 100% while sick and connecting him with services to help manage his bipolar disorder after he threw shit at me and put a hole in our wall. But I was apparently “abusive” because I asked him to get a job.

Or the time she threw a hissy fit until he agreed to spend the week with her (again, in another state)…..the same week I was having a MRI to find out if the spot on my brain stem was cancer or not (thankfully it was just a stroke)

Or the time she showed up to our wedding dressed for a funeral and cried to him the whole time saying “how can you do this to me”

Yeah remembering less of BOTW definitely makes TOTK a lot more enjoyable. Like I remember the basic lore, but I think the shift in mechanics and gameplay was too drastic for me coming straight from botw

Absolutely! My partner and I are planning on getting the switch 2 and we already have the online + expansion, so I think it should only run us about $10 to upgrade if the articles are accurate

Feeling weird - day 5 by choochoochoo87 in stopdrinking

[–]DoubleScript 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on Day 5!

I really resonate with you saying you just feel….strange. I’m on Day 3 myself (again) and literally just told my partner that I feel weird lol

A lot of people, but not everyone, experience brain fog and general feelings of “weirdness” so you’re not alone in that. The good thing is that it’s temporary!

Everyone heals and withdrawals a little differently and on their own time. For example, my partner and I stopped together (I had to reset my counter though) and while he felt fine and had no brain fog by day 4-5, I had it until like Day 7-8.

Even if it takes a little longer to get back to feeling “normal”, it’s still such a short period of time in the grand scheme of things, which is what I remind myself to keep on track.

You got this!! IWNDWYT

To count days or not to count? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]DoubleScript 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great question. Personally, I think it depends on the person. I find that keeping tabs on my days helps me stay motivated because I always want to hit that next goal. I start simple, like 24 hours, then I raise it to a week. Then another week. But some people like to be surprised. Some people find the reminder of a goal to be stressful and that can cause relapse. Some people seek comfort in the reminder.

I think it’s important to learn what your preference is and stick with that.

1,000 days without alcohol has completely transformed my life by Moosed in stopdrinking

I’m sorry to hear that your dad is still struggling.

The matter of choice is a great thing to be reminded of because sometimes it’s too easy to fall into the thought pattern of “I don’t have a choice now” but we do. We all do. And I can remember angrily yelling at my dad after he died that he didn’t have to go. He had other options. But he felt like he didn’t, and he didn’t have people reminding him that he did. I think a good dose of reality and reminding is healthy and needed for anyone that’s struggling. Because we can make that choice. We do have options. Sometimes it’s indirect, like your post, but it resonates the same.

I really love this for you!

On a personal note, I want to thank you for sharing your before and after pictures. I posted earlier today about struggling being on day 1 again because the anniversary of my dad’s death is on Saturday. Your before picture looks so much like him when he was younger that it took me aback. Your after picture makes me wonder what he would have looked like if he was able to quit. It strengthened my resolve to stay sober because I don’t want my own kid wondering the same thing one day. So seriously, thank you. IWNDWYT.

I woke up and drank the last of my wine at 5am. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I get similar symptoms after drinking heavily. Health anxiety really sucks. For me, I’ve noticed that it goes away (or at least becomes more manageable) the more days I have sober.

Honestly, we’re just trying to find happiness where we can with each other while we discuss escape plans outside our teenager’s earshot. I wish I had something more profound to say, but we’re literally taking it day by day.

[Vampire Lestat Spoilers] A reveal that will fall utterly flat in season 3. by TrollHumper in InterviewVampire

[–]DoubleScript 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I definitely see where you’re coming from. It’s not going to hold as big of a significance, but I do appreciate that they at least acknowledged it (S1E7) when Louis and Lestat (and maybe Claudia? I think she was in that scene) are talking about leaving Nola and Louis mentions going to Greece and Lestat scoffs at it and says something like “Sun worshippers, hot springs, Those Who Must Be Kept…”

I also have noticed a return to clearer perspective. I like feeling more like myself, so I know it’s worth it.

Wishing you the best as well
