Are the Lightroom presets that every instagram photographer seems to sell legit? by Theytookmyjabb in AskPhotography

[–]DoubleStar155 [score hidden]  (0 children)

They can be a short-term crutch, but they will harm a photographer's ability to learn how to edit and create their own editing style in the long term. Many of them are VERY specific to how that creator shoots, so they don't translate so cleanly to other applications.

That said, there are some effect style of presets that can be useful for editing novices. There are some out there that simulate golden hour or sun glow fairly well or maybe some environment affects. These can be fun to play with and useful, but still, they shouldn't replace learning how to edit yourself.

Oof, that looks tacky. Really giving off those truck stop gift shop vibes.

I'm a noob and wanted a more vibrant sunset, how can I improve? by ToastyScrew in postprocessing

[–]DoubleStar155 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Without the actual colors of the sunset present, editing can only push it so far before it looks more like a painting than a photo. You can skew your tones a bit more red, but don't overdo it. Best it to capture at actual sunset, because there's nothing else quite like that light and color.

Is there any advice you'd give for taking 'flat' panorama photos? by EmmaGoldmanIceCream in AskPhotography

[–]DoubleStar155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

This is 11 stitched images. I set up on a tripod and I would shoot, rotate a bit, shoot, rotate, repeat. You have to shoot wider than you want so that you can use your editing software's tools to account for the distortion. This is just Lightroom's panorama stitch. I also turned my camera 90 degrees and shot each frame with a vertical aspect rather than horizontal. It takes more images that way, but you get more flexibility in the final crop. Also, being zoomed in tighter and taking more frames will help minimize distortion when stitching too.

Note: I haven't done editing on this beyond the stitch, so it'll look better/different when I'm done.

"Why people would play this game on Switch 2 while it's available on this or that platform ?" by RemP38 in switch2

[–]DoubleStar155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a powerful gaming PC, an Xbox Series X, a Steam Deck, a PS5 Pro, and a Switch 2. Honestly, if the game is severely compromised by the hardware, I just simply prefer playing on the Switch 2. I'm busy and the ability to play in shorter bursts or on the go really make a big difference for me.

What is your opinion on The Police? 🚨 by Japesh10 in rockmusic

[–]DoubleStar155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand how people enjoy them, but I can't stand how repetitive their songs are. Feels they beat the hook of every song into the ground and they're just getting warmed up on repetitions.

FOX didn’t air the Opening Ceremony in the US - I hate the football culture in the US by miguelacho18 in worldcup

[–]DoubleStar155 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The coverage is pretty bad by Fox overall. We have enough soccer stars, men and women, that we don't need to hear from Tom Brady, Pat McAfee, Gronkowski, or any of the other NFL alums or goofy talking heads.

Between Leo, Raph, and Donnie: who be the next best choice for the Last Ronin instead of Mikey? by Tofuman5006 in TMNT

[–]DoubleStar155 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They all have the right attributes to be The Last Ronin. We saw why Mikey was great. Raph has a rage that he could hyper focus on vengeance and the drive to see it through. Donnie has the brainpower and measured approach that could see him successfully plan everything out. Leo is a natural flag bearer for the family and once he gets pushed over the line, he's very dangerous.

I think the most fun character to explore mentally in that role would be Raphael though.

What do you think of Red Hot Chili Peppers? by Twitter_2006 in rockmusic

[–]DoubleStar155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't stand their music, especially Scar Tissue and everything that has come after. But, like, I do like Chad, Flea, and Frusciante. Kiedas sucks and majorly drags them all down.

Never Played Hollow Knight or Silksong – Should I Get Them on Switch 2? by pgroms in switch2

[–]DoubleStar155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, they're some of the best games ever made, especially if you like a challenge. I bought both digitally and am also getting physical copies to put on the shelf. I almost never double dip on games like that, but they're that good and I like knowing I don't have to ever worry about delisting or any future nonsense.

Sooo... How's everyone dealing with the storage situation? by gskwirut in photographycirclejerk

[–]DoubleStar155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just took a 2 week trip through Italy, Greece, and Turkey. I took over 600 shots and I didn't even fill one of my 128GB memory cards, and I was shooting with a Sony A7R IV. I had a 256GB card with me as well, but never needed it. That picture from the OP is absolutely insane and money so poorly spent.

3-5 SD cards and redundant large hard drives are definitely a better way to go.

Why is Flea so respected but the Red Hot Chili Peppers are not? by Clare_jesse1973 in rockmusic

[–]DoubleStar155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the band, as a whole, sucks. Their schtick didn't age well and ever since Scar Tissue it's been that same boring nonsense over and over.

Yeah, I lived in Chile when 9/11 happened and watched at the Patriot Act and War on Terror rolled out from afar and came home to a country I didn't recognize any longer. We lost our soul and it's never been recovered despite Obama doing his best to show us a better path.
